1 GENERAL - ALL WORK SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH APPLICABLE CITY CODES; AND THESE PLANS. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL APPLY FOR ALL PERMITS AND PAY FOR SAME.
A. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL CONDITIONS AND DIMENSIONS SHOWN ON THE PLANS AT THE SITE
PRIOR TO COMMENCMENT OF ANY WORK UNDER THIS CONTRACT.
B. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CARRY ALL WORKER'S COMPENSATION, PUBLIC LIABILITY AND PROPERTY
DAMAGE INSURANCE, AS REQUIRED BY THE OWNER.
C. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL APPLY FOR ALL PERMITS AND PAY FOR SAME. ALL IRRIGATION WORK SHALL
HAVE RECOMMENDED APPROVAL BY THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO BEGINNING ANY
GROUNDCOVER PLANTING WORK.
p_ THE OWNER'S SUPERINTENDENT AND THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT WILL REVIEW THE PLANTING WORK.
PRIOR TO STARTING WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONTACT THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT AND
COORDINATE ALL REVIEWS.
E. THE QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP AND MATERIALS SHALL BE OF THE HIGHEST STANDARDS. COOPERATION
AND FLEXIBILITY IS EXPECTED OF THE CONTRACTOR TOWARD WORKING WITH THE OWNER/LANDSCAPE
ARCHITECT IN PRODUCING THE BEST POSSIBLE PRODUCT.
F. UPON COMPLETION OF EACH PHASE OF THE WORK, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL THOROUGHLY CLEAN THE
SITE OF ALL ACCUMULATED RUBBISH, DEBRIS, AND OTHER EXTRANEOUS MATERIAL.
2. SCOPE OF WORK - FURNISH ALL MATERIAL, LABOR, TRANSPORTATION. EQUIPMENT AND PROPERTY TO
COMPLETE THE LANDSCAPING OF THE PLANTING AREAS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS, OR REASONABLY IMPLIED
TO COMPLETE THE CONSTRUCTION. INCLUDED AS A PART OF THE WORK, BUT NOT NECESSARILY LIMITED BY IT,
ARE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS: FINE GRADING OF ALL PLANTING AREAS, PREPARATION OF ALL PLANTING AND
TREE HOLES, FURNISHING AND INSTALLATION OF ALL REQUIRED PLANTING BACKFILL MATERIALS, TREE
STAKES, MOW CURBS AND MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS, FURNISHING AND INSTALLATION OF ALL PLANT
MATERIALS, PROVIDING MAINTENANCE THROUGHOUT THE SPECIFIED PERIOD, CLEAN-UP AND WEEDING OF ALL
LANDSCAPE AREAS, GUARANTEE OF ALL PLANT MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP FOR A PERIOD OF ONE YEAR
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE ALL WEEDS, ROCKS OVER 1" DIAMETER, DEBRIS AND OTHER
EXTRANEOUS MATERIAL FROM THE JOB SITE IN A LEGAL MANNER PRIOR TO PROCEEDING WITH ANY WORK
UNDER THIS CONTRACT.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR FINISH GRADE, INCLUDING ANY IMPORT SOIL ADJUSTMENTS
TO EARTH BERMS. PROVIDE FINISH GRADE IN PLANTING AREAS 1% MINIMUM FLOW. FINISH GRADES SHALL
BE 2" BELOW ADJACENT WALKS, CURBS, DRIVEWAYS, ETC. IN GROUND COVER AREAS.
5. ALL TREES AND SHRUBS SHALL BE PLANTED PER THESE NOTES AND AS DETAILED. ALL PLANT MATERIAL
SHALL BE OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY AND LARGEST REASONABLE SIZE AVAILABLE FOR THE SPECIFIED
CONTAINER SIZE (WITHOUT BEING ROOT BOUND). SHRUB MATERIALS SHALL BE VIGOROUSLY GROWING,
HEALTHY PLANT MATERIAL, FULL AND BUSHY, OF HINES WHOLESALE NURSERY/MONROVIA NURSERY
COMPANY QUALITY, OR EQUAL. THE LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT WILL REVIEW ALL PLANT MATERIAL WHEN
SPOTTED FOR PLANTING, AND WILL NOT HESITATE TO REJECT ANY MATERIAL OF QUESTIONABLE QUALITY,
OR OF LESS THAN THE LARGEST REASONABLE SIZE MATERIAL AVAILABLE.
6. NO PLANT SUBSTITUTIONS ARE TO BE MADE WITHOUT THE WRITTEN CONSENT OF THE LANDSCAPE
ARCHITECT.
7. ALL GROUNDCOVER AS NOTED IN THE LEGEND SHALL BE ROOTED TIP CUTTINGS FROM FLATS AND SHALL BE
PLANTED IN STAGGERED ROWS CONTINUOUSLY UNDER ALL TREES AND SHRUBS IN THE AREAS AS
DESIGNATED ON THE PLANS AND AT THE SPACING INDICATED IN THE LEGEND. GROUNDCOVER SHALL BE
INSTALLED NO CLOSER THAN 112 THE ON CENTER SPACING AS INDICATED ON PLANS.
8. TO ALL NEW PLANTING AREAS (TURFGRASS, SHRUB AND GROUNDCOVER) ROTOTILL THE FOLLOWING
AMENDMENTS 4"-6" DEEP AND IRRIGATE THOROUGHLY: 200 LBS. OF GRO-POWER11000 S.F. 3 CU. YDS.
NITROGEN STABILIZED ORGANIC AMENDMENT/1000 S.F.
9. AFTER EARTHWORK, INSTALLATION OF IRRIGATION SYSTEM, AND SOIL PREPARATION, BUT PRIOR TO
PLANTING, PERFORM WEED ABATEMENT PROGRAM TO ALL PLANTING AREAS AS FOLLOWS: TO ALL
PLANTING AREAS ALLOW A WEEK MIN. FOR WEED ABATEMENT PROCESS
A. APPLY SULFATE OF AMMONIA AT THE RATE OF 5 LBS. PER 1,000 SQ. FT. TO ALL AREAS TO BE PLANTED.
B. KEEP AREA MOIST BY REGULAR IRRIGATIONS FOR A PERIOD OF TWO (2) WEEKS TO GERMINATE EXISTING
WEED SEEDS.
C. AT THE END OF TWO WEEKS, APPLY "ROUND -UP" OR EQUAL SYSTEMIC HERBICIDE. DO NOT IRRIGATE
WITH -IN SIX (6) HOURS AFTER APPLICATION. HERBICIDE SHALL BE APPLIED BY AN INDIVIDUAL WITH THE
PROPER LICENSE. REFER TO MFG. SPECIFICATIONS FOR PERIOD OF TIME REQUIRED FROM TIME OF
APPLICATION TO TIME IMPLEMENTING PLANTING. AFTER COMPLETE WEED KILL, REMOVE ALL WEED
RESIDUE AND TOP GROWTH AND DISPOSE OF IN A LEGAL MANNER. NOTE: ALTERNATE METHODS OF WEED
KILL FOR ITEM'C' MAY BE VAPAM OR METHYL BROMIDE APPLIED PER LICENSED HERBICIDE AGENCY AND
SPECIFICATIONS.
D. REPEAT STEPS A,B & C.
10. ALL GROUNDCOVERS, SHRUB AREAS AND BARE SOIL AREAS (EXCEPT AREAS TO RECEIVE HYDROSEED OR
TURFGRASS) ARE TO BE TREATED WITH A PRE -EMERGENT CHEMICAL (SUBJECT TO APPROVAL BY
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT PRIOR TO APPLICATION). CHEMICALS ARE TO BE APPLIED BY A LICENSED PEST
CONTROL AGENT AT THE RATES RECOMMENDED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THIS TREATMENT SHALL BE
APPLIED AT THE FOLLOWING TIMES DURING THE CONTRACT:
A) AT THE BEGINNING OF PLANT ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD AND
B) AT THE END OF THE PLANT ESTABLISHMENT PERIOD.(IF IT EXCEEDS 90DAYS)
NO CHEMICALS SHALL BE APPLIED OTHER THAN IN THE PRESENCE OF THE INSPECTOR.
11.BACKFILL MIX FOR TREES AND SHRUBS SHALL BE AS FOLLOWS:
- 6 PARTS BY VOLUME NATIVE ON-SITE SOIL
4 PARTS BY VOLUME NITROLIZED FIR SHAVINGS
- 18 LBS OF GRO-POWER PER CUJYD. OF MIX
- 2 LBS. OF IRON SULFATES PER CU./YD OF MIX
- GRO-POWER PLANTING TABLETS FOR EXTENDED FEEDING/SOIL CONDITIONING. SEE TREE AND SHRUB
PLANTING DETAILS FOR PLACEMENT AND QUANTITIES.
THE ABOVE SHOULD BE THOROUGHLY BLENDED PRIOR TO USE FOR BACKFILL PURPOSES. THE IRON
SULFATE SHOULD NOT CONTACT CEMENT SURFACES SINCE SEVERE STAINING COULD OCCUR.
12. MAINTENANCE PERIOD - THE MAINTENANCE PERIOD SHALL COMMENCE UPON THE OWNER'S AND THE
LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT'S WRITTEN RECOMMENDED APPROVAL OF ALL PHASES OF PLANTING INSTALLATION
AND SHALL BE FOR NINETY (90) CONTINUOUS CALENDAR DAYS.
13. MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES - THE GENERAL CARE AND MAINTENANCE OF ALL AREAS SHALL CONSIST OF
PROPER WATERING, FERTILIZATION, WEEDING, CLEAN-UP, AND AS FOLLOWS:
A. CULTIVATE AND WEED AT LESS THAN TEN (10) WORKING DAY INTERVALS.
B. APPROXIMATELY 30 DAYS AFTER INITIAL PLANTING, APPLY 25 LBS. OF GRO-POWER PER 1,000 SQ. FT. AND
IRRIGATE THOROUGHLY. THE SECOND APPLICATION USING THE ABOVE PRODUCT AT THE SAME RATE SHALL
BE APPLIED IN ANOTHER 60 DAYS OR JUST BEFORE THE MAINTENANCE PERIOD ENDS.
C. CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN THE IRRIGATION SYSTEMS IN A LIKE NEW, OPERATING CONDITION,
ADJUSTING HEAD HEIGHTS, THROW AND SPRAY ARCS AS NECESSARY. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE
FOR PROPER WATERING OF ALL PLANTING AREAS, AND SHALL REPLACE ANY MATERIAL DAMAGED DUE TO
IMPROPER MOISTURE.
D. ANY CONCENTRATED DEVELOPMENT OF WEED GROWTH THAT MAY APPEAR IN PLANTING AREAS DURING
MAINTENANCE PERIOD SHALL BE REMOVED AT TEN (10) DAY INTERVALS. THE CONTRACTOR MAY ELECT TO
REMOVE SUCH CONCENTRATIONS OF WEEDS MANUALLY OR BY AN APPROVED HERBICIDE PROGRAM.
E. MOW AND EDGE TURFGRASS AREAS WEEKLY.
F. DURING THE COURSE OF THE MAINTENANCE WORK, THE CONTRACTORSHALL REMOVE SURPLUS MATERIALS
AND DEBRIS FROM THE SITE AND SHALL KEEP THE PREMISES IN A NEAT AND CLEAN CONDITION AT ALL
TIMES.
G. DURING THE MAINTENANCE PERIOD, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR MAINTAINING
ADEQUATE PROTECTION FOR ALL PLANTING AREAS. ANY DAMAGED AREAS SHALL BE REPAIRED AT THE
CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
14. ITEMS 8. 11 & 13B ARE FOR BID PURPOSES ONLY. CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT SOIL SAMPLE TO SOIL &
PLANT LAB, P.O. BOX 6566 ORANGE, CA 92613 (714-282-8777). CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TEST RESULTS
AND LAB RECOMMENDATIONS TO L.A. FOR REVIEW. CONTRACTOR SHALL AMEND SOIL, PREPARE BACKFILL &
FERTILIZER PER TEST RESULTS, OWNER SHALL PAY FOR WHOLESALE COST OF MATERIALS ONLY SHOULD
