PLANTING OF STREET'TREES
Street tree quantities are estimated as one tree for every 30 LF of
property adjacent to the street. Street tree spacing shall be
between 30 and 40 feet on center with actual spacing and location
as determined by the Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Department following installation of public improvements prior to issuance
of Certificate of Occupancy. Trees may be grouped for design purposes
at discretion of the City.
Hales for planting trees shall be excavated a minimum of twice as
wide as the root ball width and twice as deep as the root ball
depth.
Use the following backfill mix for overagge soil conditions and when
no organic soil reports are available. To obtain one cubic yard of
backfill mix:
1/2 cubic yard screened site top soil
1/2 cubic yard nitrolized shavings
2 lbs iron sulfate
10 lbs organic gypsum
AGRIFORM PLANTING TABLETS PER MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED RATE.
The tree shall be placed within the excavation so that its root
crown bears the some relative position to finished grade as it did
to the soil surface where the tree was grown. Any trees which
settle deeper than specified above shall be raised back to the
correct level, or replaced, at the option of the contractor. After
the tree has been placed, additional backfill shall be added to the
hole to cover approximately one—half the height of the root ball.
Water shall be added to the top of the partly filled hole to
thoroughly saturate the root ball and adjacent soil. All trees placed
within a perimeter of paving shall be surrounded with bricks or
grates acceptable to the Parks, Recreation and Community Services
Director.
Trees shall be planted with the ball of earth surrounding the roots
intact. Trees in containers shall have the containers removed prior
to planting. Containers shall be removed without injury to roots
or breaking the ball of earth surrounding the roots. Pot—bound
trees will be rejected. Backfill after Planting of the trees shall be
tamped firmly into place without injuring the roots of the trees or
breaking up the ball of earth surrounding the roots. All planting
shall be in accordance with City of Corona street planting detail.
SITE CONDITION OF STREET TREES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR PLANTS:
Unless otherwise specified, all trees shall be furnished in
containers of not less that 15 gallon capacity in accordance
with standard nursery practice.
Trees shall be 3/4 to 1 inch in diameter and from 5 1/2 to 7
feet tall. Diameters shall be measured 48 inches above the
crown roots.
Palm trees shall be healthy, have a normal configuration and be
well rooted. The roots shall show no evidence of having been
restricted, deformed, or root—bound at any time. All plants shall
be well grown, free from insect pests, grown in nurseries which
have been inspected by the State Department of Agriculture, and be
delivered with a PINTO tog. All plants shall be No. 1 grade of
their normal species or variety unless otherwise specified. They
shall have normal, well developed branch systems and vigorous root
systems. Plants shall be free from disfiguring knots, injuries,
abrasions of the bark, sun scalding or other objectionable
disfigurements. Plants not conforming to the requirements herein
shall be considered as defective, and such plants, whether in place
or not, will be marked as rejected and shall be removed immediately
from the site of the work and replaced with suitable plants.
DI STREET TREE PLANTING NOTES
STAKING AND TYING OF STREET TREES
PALM)
All trees, unless otherwise specified, shall be held vertically
with two 2—inch round by 8 feet treated lodgepole pine stakes placed
36 inches in the ground in a manner to avoid injury to the roots or
the breaking of the balls of earth surrounding the roots. The
stakes shall be placed at right angles to the prevailing wind.
Trunks of trees shall be secured to hold the trees upright without
injury for a period of six months. The method of staking and tying
shall be as approved by the Parks, Recreation and Community
Services Director.
TRIMMING AND PRUNING OF STREET TREES
Pruning shall be limited to the minimum necessary to remove injured
twigs and branches, and to compensate for loss of roots during
transplanting, but never to exceed one—half of the branching
structure. Upon approval of the Parks, Recreation and Community
Services Director, pruning may be done before delivery of plants, but
not before plants have been inspected and approved. Cuts over
three—quarters of an inch in diameter shall be painted with an
approved tree wound paint.
WATERING OF STREET TREES
After all other work appurtenant to planting has been completed, each
tree shall be watered immediately with a minimum of 20 gallons of
water or irrigated to approval of Parks, Recreation and Community
Services Director. After this water has settled and the soil is
sufficiently dry, basins shall be cultivated to prevent crusting and
evaporation.
