MATERIALS
A. Concrete blocks shall be lightweight aggregate units, Grade B, ASTM C 90.
B. Concrete shall be Portland cement, conforming to the current editions of the
ASTM standard specifications for Portland cement -designation C-150, Type I or Type II.
C. Cured concrete shall attain minimum comprehensive strength of 2,500 p.s.i. at 28 days.
Finish of formed surfaces shall be smooth and free of abrasions.
D. All steel, flats and bars shall conform to ASTM A-36. Bolts shall conform to ASTM A307.
All bolts shall be standard machine bolts with steel washers.
E. Reinforcing steel shall be deformed bars conforming to ASTM A 615-68, grade 40.
Deformations shall conform to ASTM A305.
F. Galvanizing shall conform to ASTM designation A 123 and A 153, as applicable.
G. Zinc -oxide primer conforming to Federal Specifications TT-P641b. Standard brand zinc -dust.
H. Wire fabric shall conform to ASTM A 185. Fabric to be 6" x 6" x #10 x #10.
I. Tie wire shall be fully annealed, copper -bearing steel wire, 16 gauge minimum.
J. Paint shall be Sherman Williams, Sinclair, Tnemec, Dunn -Edwards or approved equal.
Color to be selected by the City of Fontana.
EXECUTION
A. Trash enclosures shall be constructed as shown on drawings prepared by
Sitescapes, Inc., 19762 MacArthur Blvd., Suite 130, Irvine, CA 92762, (949) 644-9370
B. Contractor shall submit four (4) copies of complete shop drawings, for the
steel gates indicating types of hinges and connections, welds, types of finishes, etc.
for review by the City and Landscape Architect prior to start of construction.
C. All exposed steel materials shall be hot -dipped galvanized after having been subjected to
preparation and cleaning. Galvanizing shall be done after fabrication and assembly and in
the largest practical units. Drain well and finish so that completed galvanized items are
smooth and free from projections, barbs and icicles.
D. All materials and items not encased, embedded in or cast against concrete or masonry
shall be shop primed and painted after cleaning, using the specified primers and paint.
Apply shop paint evenly by spray to uniformly coat all surfaces, into joints and comers
with a minimum wet fihn thickness of 1.5 mils.
E. After installation or erection, provide field touch-up to adequately cover all abrasions,
scratches, damage areas and weld areas after slogging and removal of burned or blistered paint.
Surfaces shall be properly cleaned prior to touch-up. Coat all bolt heads, nuts washers and other
connectors. Touch-up primer shall be the specified shop paint.
F. Contractor shall submit two (2) paint chip color samples. The contractor shall submit
one (1) sample of the concrete block to be used on the project. The samples shall be
reviewed by the City and Landscape Architect prior to construction.
G. Lay all concrete block units in running bond pattern. Joints shall be 3/8". All cells shall
be solid grouted. Install reinforcing bars in conformance with the drawings. Finish surfaces
shall be clean and free from marring or staining of any nature, joints shall be true, even, tight
and uniform in color.
