GRADE CROSSING NOTES:
1. Asphalt concrete pavement, curb, gutter and sidewalks sha
be constructed as per city or county standard plans and
specifications and shall also meet the requirements of
"Standard Plans for Public Works Construction" published by
the American Public Works Association.
2. Where crossings involve two or more tracks, the top of ra
for all tracks shall be brought to the same plane where
practicable, unless track superelevation dictate otherwise.
3. The surface of the highway shall be in the some plane as
the top of rails for a distance of two feet outside of neares
rail for upo to the outer edge of the precast cocnrete panel
for either multiple or single track crossings. The surface of t
highway should also note be more than 3 inches higher or
lower than the top of the nearest rail at a point 30 feet fro
the rail unless track superelevation dictate otherwise. From t
point, approach grades not in excess of six percent are
desirable (three percent preferred). Vertical crest curves of s

distances normally applied to the highway under consideration

centerline of the nearest track. The curb shall then transition
from full height to zero height within the next 5 feet and sh
have zero height 10 feet from the centerline of the track.
5. The roadway and sidewalks shall be constructed of asphalt
concrete in the area located 10 feet from the centerline of
nearest track.
6. Drainage catch basins or inlets should not be located with
30 feet of the centerline of the nearest track.
7. All construction and maintenance work within 20 feet of t
nearest track shall comply with Federal Railroad Administratio
Office of Safety, Code of Federal Regulations, Title 49, Part
214, "Roadway Worker" and shall be performed under the
supervision of the SCRRA.
