CITY OF FONTANA GENERAL NOTES:
1. ALL WORK SHOWN HEREON SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LASTEST
EDITION OF THE "STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION",
("GREEN BOOK"), INCLUDING ALL SUPPLEMENTS AS WRITTEN AND PROMULGATED
BY THE JOINT COOPERATIVE, • COMMITTEE OF THE -SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
CHAPTER OF THE AMERICAN PUBLIC WORKS ASSOCIATION AND THE SOUTHERN
CALIFORNIA DISTRICT OF THE ASSOCIATED GENERAL CONTRACTORS OF CALIFORNIA,
WITH THE CITY OF FONTANA STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS, AND CHAPTER 33
OF THE BUILDING CODE, LATEST EDITION. -
2. CONSTRUCTION PERMITS SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE CITY OF
FONTANA, ENGINEERING, DIVISION PRIOR TO START OF ANY WORK
WITHIN THE CITY -LIMITS.
3. STATIONING REFERS TO THE CENTERLINES OF STORM DRAINS, EXCEPT
WHERE OTHERWISE NOTED.
4. ALL EXPOSED CONCRETE SHALL CONFORM IN GRADE, COLOR AND
FINISH TO ADJOINING CURBS AND SIDEWALKS. -
5. NO CONCRETE SHALL BE PLACED UNTIL THE FORMS AND REINFORCING
STEEL HAS' BEEN PLACED, INSPECTED AND APPROVED.
6. ALL UNDERGROUND WORK SHALL BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO PAVING OF
:STREETS.
7. EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES ARE AS PER THE AVAILABLE
RECORDS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR VERIFYING
THE ACTUAL LOCATION AND ELEVATION IN THE FIELD.
8. THE WALLS AND FACES OF, ALL EXCAVATIONS GREATER THAN FIVE (5)
FEET IN DEPTH SHALL BE EFFECTIVELY GUARDED BY A SHORING
SYSTEM, SLOPING OF THE GROUND OR OTHER -EQUIVALENT MEANS.
TRENCHES LESS THAN FIVE (5) FEET IN DEPTH SHALL ALSO BE
GUARDED WHEN EXAMINATION INDICATES HAZARDOUS GROUND
MOVEMENT MAY BE EXPECTED.
9. THE CONTRACTOR(S) SHALL ALSO OBTAIN A PERMIT TO PERFORM
EXCAVATION OR TRENCH WORK AS DESCRIBED IN NOTE 8 ABOVE FROM
CAL/OSHA.
10. ALL MANHOLES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED 6" BELOW PAVEMENT GRADE
AND BROUGHT,TO FINISHED GRADE"BY THE PAVING CONTRACTOR
AFTER PAVEMENT IS IN PLACE.
11. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING REMOVAL OF EXISTING PAVEMENT OR DIKE
OR CURB AND/OR GUTTER, THE CONTRACTOR -SHALL DILIGENTLY
PURSUE THAT PORTION OF THE WORK TO COMPLETION.
12. ALL C.M.P. INSTALLATIONS AND CONNECTIONS SHALL BE MADE PER
MANUFACTURE'S SUGGESTED' METHOD, UNLESS OTHERWISE
SPECIFIED ON THE PLANS.
13. IF DURING CONSTRUCTION, GROUND WATER IS ENCOUNTERED, A
SYSTEM APPROVED BY THE -CITY ENGINEER SHALL BE INSTALLED TO
DEWATER SAID AREA AT THE DIRECTION OF THE SOILS ENGINEER.
14. NO TRENCH BACKFILL SHALL TAKE'PLACE WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL
BY THE CITY'S INSPECTOR.,
15. ALL EXPOSED METAL SURFACES SHALL BE GALVANIZED IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
16. RECORD DRAWINGS SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE CITY BY THE
ENGINEER OF RECORD.
GENERAL NOTES:
1. ELEVATIONS ARE IN FEET ABOVE U.S.C. & G.S. MEAN SEA LEVEL DATUM
OF 1929. -
2. ALL CONCRETE -SHALL BE PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE WITH AN
ULTIMATE 28 -DAY COMPRESSIVE STRENGTH OF 3250 P.S.L.

3. ALL EXPOSED EDGES SHALL BE FINISHED WITH A 3/4" CHAMFER.
4. ALL STEEL ADJACENT TO FACE OF CONCRETE SHALL HAVE A 2-1/2-
CLEARANCE,
-1/2"CLEARANCE, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
5. REINFORCEMENT' SHALL BE DEFORMED BARS OF INTERMEDIATE GRADE
STEEL AS PER AA.S.T.M. A-615 GRADE 60.
6. ALL BAR BENDS AND- HOOKS SHALL CONFORM TO THE AMERICAN
CONCRETE INSTITUTE "MANUAL OF STANDARD PRACTICE".
7. DIMENSIONS FROM FACE OF CONCRETE. TO STEEL ARE TO CENTERLINE
OF STEEL, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED.
8. ALL BACKFILLS AND FILLS TO BE USED AS SUBGRADE SHALL BE
'-_COMPACTED TO A RELATIVE DENSITY OF 909'0, UNLESS OTHERWISE
SPECIFIED.
9.. ALL STEEL THAT IS TO BE CONTINUOUS SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM LAP OF
30 BAR DIAMETERS OR 18% WHICHEVER IS GRATER.

10. PIPE SHALL -BE IMBEDDED 5 INCHES INTO ALL STRUCTURES, INCLUDING
INLET AND HEADWALLS, UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED.
11. ALL BACKFILL AND FILL AROUND CLOSED CONDUIT IN STREET RIGHT OF
WAY SHALL BE•BROUGHT UP TO SUBGRADE OF THE ROAD OR TO 2
FEET ABOVE THE TOP OF THE CONDUIT, WHICHEVER IS LESS. THE
PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR AND THE SOILS ENGINEER SHALL INSPECT
ALL BACKFILL AND FILL ABOVE AFOREMENTIONED LIMITS. REQUESTS
FOR AN ENGINEER OR INSPECTOR IN CONNECTION WITH THE WORK
SHALL BE MADE BY THE CONTRACTOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE
SERVICE IS REQUIRED. r
12. ALL REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE SHALL BE BEDDED IN ACCORDANCE
WITH LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS STD.
PLAN 3080-0, CASE 3 (SEE SHEET 7).
13. THIS STORM DRAIN WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED FOR MAINTENANCE UNTIL
THE STREETS HAVE BEEN PAVED, MANHOLES BROUGHT TO GRADE,
AND THE SYSTEM IS CLEANED TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CITY OF
FONTANA, ENGINEERING DIVISION.

14. THE CONTRACTOR'S ATTENTION IS DIRECTED TO SECTION 7-10.4.1 OF
THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION
IN REGARD TO SAFETY ORDERS.
15. ALL PIPE SHALL BE PLACED IN A TRENCH IN NATURAL GROUND AND/OR
COMPACTED FILL. THE GROUND LEVEL BEFORE THE TRENCHING SHALL
BE AT LEAST THREE FEET ABOVE THE TOP OF PIPE ELEVATION,
WHICHEVER IS LESS.
16. A PERMIT SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE CITY OF FONTANA PRIOR TO
COMMENCING ANY CONSTRUCTION WORK UNDER THIS CONTRACT.
CONTACT THE CITY BY TELEPHONE AT (909) 350-7610 TO OBTAIN
INSPECTION AND CONNECTION PERMIT AND TO MAKE DEPOSIT FOR
INSPECTION BY THE CITY OF FONTANA.
17 THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MITIGATE TRIBUTARY DRAINAGE AT
ALL TIMES UNTIL THIS STORM DRAIN SYSTEM IS OPERABLE.
18. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE CITY OF FONTANA AT (909) 350-
7610 AT LEAST 24 HOURS BEFORE BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION.
19. PRIOR TO START OF ANY CONSTRUCTION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
OBTAIN A CONSTRUCTION PERMIT FROM THE CITY OF FONTANA,
ENGINEERING DIVISION.
20. THE PRIVATE ENGINEER SIGNING THESE PLANS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR
ASSURING THE ACCURACY AND ACCEPTABILITY OF THE WORK HEREON.
IN THE EVENT OF DISCREPANCIES ARISING DURING CONSTRUCTION,
THE PRIVATE ENGINEER SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR DETERMINING AN
ACCEPTABLE SOLUTION AND REVISING THE PLANS FOR APPROVAL BY
THE CITY.
21. ALL STATE AND LOCAL TRENCH SAFETY RULES WILL BE RIGIDLY
ENFORCED.
22. CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH A LETTER OF CERTIFICATION FROM PIPE
MANUFACTURER AS TO TEST RESULTS OF PIPE INSTALLED, MINIMUM D -
LOAD AS SHOWN ON PLANS.
23. R.C.P. SHALL BE MANUFACTURED AND INSPECTED IN ACCORDANCE
WITH SECTION 207-2.7,2.8 & 2.9 OF THE STANDARD SPECS. FOR PUBLIC
WORKS.
24. ALL RESURFACING, CURBS, GUTTERS, SIDEWALKS, DRIVEWAYS AND
ALL OTHER EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS TO BE RECONSTRUCTED SHALL
BE CONSTRUCTED AT THE SAME ELEVATION AND LOCATION AS THE
EXISTING IMPROVEMENTS, UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON PLANS.
25. ALL PIPES SHALL BE CERTIFIED BY MANUFACTURER AND MARKED WITH
D -LOAD, DATE AND TEE'S LOCATIONS MARKED FOR THE CITY
INSPECTOR'S ACCEPTANCE.
26. ALL PIPE VELOCITIES EXCEEDING 20 F.P.S. WILL HAVE 1-1/2" THICKENED
INVERTS. (SPECIAL COVER PIPE)
27. PIPES TO BE PLUGGED W/ 2 LAYERS BRICK & MORTAR.
UNDERGROUND UTILITIES & STRUCTURES
THE EXISTENCE AND LOCATION OF ANY UNDERGROUND UTILITIES OR
STRUCTURES SHOWN IN THESE PLANS ARE OBTAINED BY A SEARCH OF
AVAILABLE RECORDS. TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE, THERE ARE NO
EXISTING UTILITIES EXCEPT THOSE SHOWN ON THESE PLANS. THE
CONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED TO TAKE ALL PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES TO
PROTECT THE UTILITIES SHOWN, AND IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROTECTION
OF, AND ANY DAMAGE TO THESE LINES OR STRUCTURES.
"CAUTION: THE ENGINEER PREPARING THESE PLANS WILL NOT BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR, OR LIABLE FOR, UNAUTHORIZED CHANGES OR USES OF

THE CONTRACTOR AGREES THAT HE SHALL ASSUME SOLE AND COMPLETE
RESPONSIBILITY FOR JOB SITE CONDITIONS DURING THE COURSE OF
CONSTRUCTION OF THIS PROJECT, INCLUDING SAFETY OF ALL PERSONS
AND PROPERTY: THAT THIS REQUIREMENT SHALL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY
AND NOT BE LIMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS; AND THAT THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL DEFEND, INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD THE OWNER AND THE
ENGINEER HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILTY, REAL OR ALLEGED,
IN CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT,
EXCEPTING FOR LIABILITY ARISING FORM THE SOLE NEGLIGENCE OF THE
OWNER OR THE ENGINEER.
