GENERAL NOTES: {
I.- -ALL WORK SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE PLANS, THE CITY OF
FONTANA STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS DATED 1975, INCLUDING LATEST
REVISIONS, ANp STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS
CONSTRUCTION, 1997 EDITION.
2. CONSTRUCTION PERMITS SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE CITY OF FONTANA
ENGINEERING DIVISION PRIOR TO.START OF ANY WORK WITHIN THE CITY
LIMITS. ALL INSPECTION SHALL BE REQUESTED AT LEAST 24 HOURS
PRIOR TO THE STARTrOF ANY WORK. CALL (909) 350-6632.
3. UNLESS OTHERWISE SPECIFIED, SANITARY SEWER LINES SHALL BE
CONSTRUCTED OF BELL AND SPIGOT -'TYPE VITRIFIED CLAY PIPE (V.C.P.).
VITRIFIED CLAY PIPE SHALL BE EXTRA STRENGTH CLASS AND SHALL
CONFORM TO, THE PROVISIONS -OF THE ASTM DESIGNATION: C700-89
"STANDARD SPECIFICATION'FOR VITRIFIED CLAY PIPE: EXTRA STRENGTH,
STANDARD STRENGTH AND PERFORATED" AND TO THE SPECIFICATIONS
.ENTITLED "VITRIFIED CLAY PIPE, MATERIALS SECTION" PUBLISHED BY
'THE CLAY PIPE INSTITUTE. WHERE PROVISIONS OF THESE SPECIFICATIONS .
ARE IN CONFLICT, THE MORE STRINGENT PROVISION SHALL APPLY.
4. MANHOLES SHALL'BE PRECAST CONCRETE MANHOLES PER CITY OF FONTANA
STANDARD DETAIL, -112. CONCRETE.FOR THE BASE SLAB SHALL BE CLASS
560-B-3250. ,,STANDARD MANHOLE FRAME AND COVER AND REINFORCED
CONCRETE COLLAR TO BE PER CITY70F FONTANA STANDARD DETAIL 109.
5. ADEQUATE CONTROL STAKES SHALL BE SET BY THE ENGINEER TO ENABLE THE
CONTRACTOR TO CONSTRUCT 'THE WORK TO THE,PLAN GRADES. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PRESERVATION OF BENCHMARKS
AND CONTROL STAKING DURING CONSTRUCTION.

6. TERMINATE'ALL 47, HOUSE SEWER LATERALS 3 FEET INSIDE THE LOT WITH
A PLUG 12" BELOW THE GROUND SURFACE. SHOULD A PUBLIC UTILITY
EASEMENT LIE CONTIGUOUS TO THE STREET ROW, THE LATERAL SHALL BE
:,_EXTENDED ACROSS THE EASEMENT AND TERMINATE 3 FEET INSIDE THE LOT
AS MEASURED FROM THE UTILITY EASEMENT LINE.
7. NO SEWER LATERALS SHALL -.8E LOCATED UNDER DRIVEWAYS.
B. THE SEWER CONTRACTOR SHALL CHISEL AND "X" IN THE FACE OF.THE CURB
AT THE LOCATION OF THE`SEWER LATERAL.
9. IF SEWER CONSTRUCTION -IS TO BE DONE IN PHASES, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
PROVIDE A TERMINAL"CLEANOUT AT,,THE PHASE BOUNDARY, NOT MORE THAN
150 FEET FROM THE PREVIOUS MANHOLE, SEE -CITY OF FONTANA STANDARD
DETAIL 128 FOR TERMINAL CLEANOUT.
10. ALL 4" HOUSE LATERALS SHALL BErINSTALLED AT A 2% MINIMUM GRADE
UNLESS OTHERWISE• APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
II. ALL MANHOLES AND CLEANOUT FRAMES AND COVERS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED
-5 INCHES BELOW FINISHED GRADE BY SEWER CONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE
- RAISED TO GRADE BY�PAVING'CONTRACTOR UPON COMPLETION OF PAVING.
12. THE CONTRACTOR.SHALL•COORDINATE CONSTRUCTION WITH ALL UTILITIES
AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: GAS,
TELEPHONE, ELECTRICAL,.LIGHTING, CABLE TELEVISION, LANDSCAPING,
LANDSCAPE IRRIGATION, DOMESTIC WATER, RECLAIMED WATER, SEWER,
STORM DRAIN, FLOOD CONTROL SYSTEMS, ETC.
13. ALL UTILITY COMPANIES SHALL BES'GIVEN 48 HOURS NOTICE PRIOR TO
WORK AROUND THEIR FACILITIES.
14. PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL EXPOSE EXISTING
FACILITIES. WHERE CONNECTIONS WILL'OCCUR, AND VERIFY THEIR
ELEVATION AND LGCATION.' APPROVAL BY THE CITY OF PROPOSED
CONNECTIONS TO EXISTING CITY FACILITIES DOES NOT IMPLY CORRECTNESS
OF,THE-ELEVATION OR LOCATION AS SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
15. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE
MEANS OF DUST -CONTROL WHICH SHALL INCLUDE PROVISIONS FOR ADEQUATE
WATERING DURING EXCAVATION AND'.GRADING, AND SHALL CONTINUE AFTER
COMPLETION•OF EXCAVATION AND GRADING UNTIL IT IS DETERMINED THAT
SPECIAL DUST PONTROL MEASURES ARE NO LONGER NECESSARY.
16. AS BUILT DRAWINGS SHALL.BE-PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR TO THE
ENGINEER OF RECORD,,, WHO SHALL PROVIDE RECORD DRAWINGS TO THE CITY
ENGINEER.
17. ANY CONFLICT FOUND BETWEEN THESE PLANS AND THE STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS, FDR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE IMMEDIATELY
REPORTED TO THE OWNERS.REPRESENTATIVE.

18. THE WALLS AND FACES OF ALL EXCAVATIONS GREATER THAN FIVE (5) FEET
:IN'DEPTH SHALL BE EFFECTIVELY GUARDED BY A SHORING SYSTEM, SLOPING
OF THE GROUND, OR OTHER ADEQUATE MEANS. TRENCES LESS THAN FIVE
(5) FEET SHALL ALSO BE GUARDED WHEN EXAMINATION INDICATES
HAZARDOUS GROUND MOVEMENT MAY BE EXPECTED.

19. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN A PERMIT TO PERFORM EXCAVATION OR
TRENCH WORK ISI NOTE N0: 18 ABOVE FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE
DIVISION OF INDUSTRIAL SAFETY.- SEE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR
PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION,•SECTION 306-1.1.6.
20. NO TRENCH BACKFILL SHALL'TAKE PLACE WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE
CITY'S INSPECTOR.
21. IF EXISTING UTILITIES OR ANY OTHER FACILITIES CONFLICT WITH THE
PROPOSED IMPROVEMENTS, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL STOP WORK AND NOTIFY
THE ENGINEER IMMEDIATELY.'
22.` -ALL STATIONING REFERS TO THE CENTERLINE OF SEWER UNLESS OTHERWISE
SPECIFIED ON THE PLANS.
23. THE SEWER CONTRACTOR SHALL BE FULLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LOCATION
AND PROTECTION OF ALL UNDERGR'OU`ND FACILITIES WHETHER SHOWN ON
THESE PLANS OR'NOT.

24. RIM ELEVATIONS SHOWN ON'PLANS ARE APPROXIMATE ONLY AND ARE NOT TO
BE USED FOR SETTING MANHOLE RINGS.
25. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR -NOTIFYING ALL AGENCIES
CONCERNED WITH THE RELOCATION OF FACILITIES LOCATED WITHIN THE
AREA TO BE IMPROVED AND INTERFERING WITH CONSTRUCTION PRIOR TO
COMMENCING,CONSTRUCTION.
26. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT DISTURB EXISTING SURVEY MONUMENTS OR
BENCH MARKS NOTED ON THE PLANS OR FOUND DURING CONSTRUCTION WITH
OUT PRIOR NOTIFICATION OF.THE ENGINEER. REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT
OF MONUMENTS SHALL'BE DONE BY A REGISTERED CIVIL ENGINEER OR
LICENSED LAND•SURVEYGR.: SURVEY MONUMENTS WHICH WILL BE DESTROYED
AS A RESULT,THIS CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED. THE CONTRACTOR
SHALL NOTIFY THE ENGINEER ONE WEEK PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION SO THAT
TIES TO EXISTING MONUMENTS CAN•BE ESTABLISHED FOR LATER
REPLACEMENT B� A REGISTERED ENGINEER OR LICENSED LAND SURVEYOR.
27. SHORT VCP STUBS WITH FLEXIBLE COMPRESSION JOINTS SHALL BE USED
AT MANHOLE WALLS TO,ABSORB MINOR DEFLECTIONS.

TO THE BEST OF OUR KNOWLEDGE, THERE ARE NO EXISTING UTILITIES EXCEPT
THOSE SHOWN ON THESE PLANS: THE CONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED TO TAKE DUE
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES TO PROTECT THE UTILITY LINES SHOWN ON THESE
DRAWINGS. THE CONTRACTOR -FURTHER ASSUMES ALL LIABILITY AND RESPON-

THIS SHALL APPLY CONTINUOUSLY AND NOT BE.L-IMITED TO NORMAL WORKING HOURS;
AND THAT THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DEFEND, INDEMNIFY, AND HOLD THE OWNER
AND THE ENGINEER HARMLESS FROM ANY AND ALL LIABILITY, REAL OR ALLEGED,
IN CONNECTION WITH THE PERFORMANCE.OF WORK ON THIS PROJECT, EXCEPTING
FOR LIABILITY ARISING FROM THE SOLE NEGLIGENCE OF THE OWNER OR THE
ENGINEER.
CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY ALL CONDITIONS AND DIMENSIONS AND SHALL REPORT
ALL DISCREPANCIES TO THE ENGINEER PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF WORK.
