23. ALL ELEVATIONS OF EXISTING SEWER UTILITY INVERTS WHERE
CONNECTIONS WILL OCCUR SHALL BE VERIFIED BY THE CONTRACTOR
PRIOR TO THE START OF ANY WORK. THE CITY ENGINEER SHALL BE
NOTIFIED OF ANY DEVIATIONS IMMEDIATELY. -
24, ALL UTILITIES SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED, TESTED, APPROVED AND BACKFILLED
TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CITY INSPECTOR. ALL BACKFILL MATERIAL SHALL
BE CERTIFIED BY A SOILS ENGINEER AS REQUIRED PER SEC. 211-2.2 "nELD DENSITY'
OF THE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, PRIOR TO ANY PAVING.
25. MATERIALS, INSTALLATION AND BACKFILL FOR ALL OPEN TRENCH SEWER
INSTALLATIONS SHALL CONFORM TO THESE PLANS, THE STANDARD SPECIAL
PROVISIONS FOR SANITARY SEWER CONSTRUCTION OF THE CITY OF
FONTANA, AND STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS
CONSTRUCTION "GREEN BOOK".
26. UNDERGROUND SERVICE ALERT SHALL BE NOTIFIED 2 WORKING DAYS
PRIOR TO START OF WORK 1-800-422-4133.
27. ALL EXCAVATION SHALL BE MADE, PROTECTED, AND SUPPORTED AS
REQUIRED FOR SAFETY AND IN THE MANNER SET FORTH IN THE
OPERATIONS RULES, ORDERS, AND REGULATIONS PRESCRIBED BY THE
CALIFORNIA DIVISION OF INDUSTRIAL SAFETY.
28. COMPACTION OF BACKFILL SHALL BE VERIFIED BY A SOILS ENGINEER AND
APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER OR DESIGNEE PRIOR TO THE PLACING
OF THE PERMANENT PAVEMENT.
29. PERMANENT PAVEMENT SHALL BE REPLACED WITHIN 5 DAYS AFTER BACKFILLING
THE EXCAVATION. A MINIMUM 2 -INCH THICKNESS OF TEMPORARY ASPHALT

PIPE ENCASEMENT CONSTRUCTION NOTES
1. PRIOR TO COMMENCING ANY WORK FOR THE PROPOSED PIPE ENCASEMENT
OPERATION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SUBMIT TO THE CITY ENGINEER
DESCRIPTIONS AND DETAILS OF THE PIPE ENCASEMENT INSTALLATION. THE
DETAILS SHALL INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING: PLACEMENT
METHOD, TRENCH SHORING; SUPPORT BLOCKS AND BRACING TO PREVENT
PIPE SHIFTING OR FLOTATION; SAND FILL MIX DESIGN; EQUIPMENT.
2: STEEL CASING SHALL BE INSTALLED BY OPEN CUT METHOD.
3. ALL PIPE STEEL CASING FIELD JOINTS SHALL BE WELDED FULL
CIRCUMFERENCE.
4. STEEL CASING PIPE SHALL HAVE A MINIMUM YIELD STRENGTH OF 35,000 PSI.
5. SUPPORTING REDWOOD SKIDS SHALL BE PROVIDED AS SHOWN. SKIDS SHALL
BE ATTACHED TO CARRIER PIPE BY STRAPPING STAINLESS STEEL BANDS WITH
A STANDARD STRAPPING MACHINE.
6. UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM ELEVATIONS OF CARRIER PIPE SHALL BE
VERIFIED PRIOR TO FILLING CASING WITH AIR BLOWN SAND.
7. CARRIER PIPE SHALL BE AIR PRESSURE TESTED PRIOR TO FILLING CASING
WITH SAND.
8. VOIDS BETWEEN CASING AND CARRIER PIPE SHALL BE FILLED WITH SAND IN
ALL INSTALLATIONS.
9. EACH END OF PIPE CASING SHALL BE SEALED WITH CONCRETE MORTAR. A
SMALL OPENING SHALL BE LEFT FOR DRAINAGE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE
DOWNSTREAM SIDE ONLY.
