INTRODUCTION This Hydrology Study was prepared for development of commercial shopping strip at 17490 Arrow Blvd., Fontana, CA 92335 and legal description is Parcel 1 of Parcel Map 5212 as shown on a map filed in Book 23, Page 42, recorded in County of San Bernardino. The site is located at northwest corner of Arrow Blvd., and Tamarind Ave. The proposed watershed is approximately 1.3 acres on Parcel 1 and 0.52 acres on Parcel 2. The primary objectives of this study are based on the approved site and grading plans to calculate 100 years design flow. There are two existing catch basin. One of catch basin is located at Arrow Blvd. and another is located at Tamarind Street of the northwest corners of both streets. They will collect storm water by passing Arrow Blvd. to curb open outlet of the southwest side of Tamarind Street to continue the street flow. This street flow will be drained to Santa Ana River to Pacific Ocean. 0 c II. HYDROLOGY CALCULATIONS A. Methodology Hydrologic calculations to determinate 100 years design discharges were performed using the San Bernardino County Rational Method from the San Bernardino County Hydrology Manual, Dated August 1986. The Rational Method is an empirical computational procedure for developing a peak runoff rate (discharge) for small watersheds for storms of a given recurrence interval. The Rational Method equation is based on the assumption that the peak flow rate is directly proportional to the drainage area, rainfall intensity, and a runoff coefficient "C" which is related to land use and soil type. The 100 year and 10 year design discharges were computed at intermediate points by generating a hydrologic model, which divides the area in drainage sub areas. Each area is tributary to a concentration point that is determined by the existing terrain or proposed site layout. The following assumptions /guidelines were applied for use of Rational Method: 1. The Rational Method Hydrology includes the effect of infiltration caused by soil surface characteristics. These soil map ratings are based on a scale of A through D is the least pervious, providing the greatest storm runoff. The soils map from the San Bernardino County Hydrology Manual indicates that the study area consists primarily of soil type "A ". 2. The type of vegetation or ground cover and percentage of impervious surfaces also affect the infiltration rate. The runoff coefficient "C ", obtained using standard runoff coefficient curve, was used to describe the proposed site infiltration characteristics for the on -site condition. 3. The time of concentration for initial area Nomograph of the San Bernardino County Hydrology Manual was used to determine the time of concentration (Tc) for initial upstream sub areas. Initial sub areas were drawn to less than 10 acres in size and less than or equal to 1000 feet in length per San Bernardino guidelines. 4. Standard intensity duration curve data was obtained from standard intensity duration curve data of San Bernardino Hydrology Manual for the southwest portion of County. ® 0 k B. 100 -Year On Site Hydrology III.
