DISCUSSION
The purpose of this drainage study is to determine the drainage facility requirements for
Parcel Map 17654 in Fontana. Specifically, the subject project is located south of Sierra
Lakes Parkway, west of Sierra Lakes Village and Ralph's, north of the 210 freeway, and east
of Sierra San Antonio Medical Plaza, in the City of Fontana, County of San Bernardino,
California.
The subject site will be a commercial site with a L.A Fitness health club, 2 each 2 -story
office buildings, a restaurant area, and a 1 story retail /office building, with an approximate
area of 9.8 acres. Proposed drainage is overland and by sheet flow generally in a southerly
direction. The site is not subject to off -site runoff. All of the project's storm runoff: will
drain to an existing Line "C ", a 96 "/60" RCP located along the southerly boundary, between
the site and the westbound off -ramp of the SR -210 Freeway. This storm drain pipe is owned
and operated by the City of Fontana.
It should be noted that the runoff from this commercially developed site has been accounted
for in the design sizing of the 96 "/60" RCP that runs westerly toward Highland Channel (see
study by Madole & Associates dated 11/4/02 for Sierra Lakes Commercial Area).
The 100 -year storm event was modeled in the rational method hydrology calculations in this
study.
r The rational method hydrologic model, as defined by Flood Control for San Bernardino
County, was followed in the determination of storm runoff. AES software was utilizedlor__..
hydrology calculations. Catch basin sizing is determined utilizing spreadsheet -driven
hydraulic algorithms (weir and orifice equations). CivilDesign's WSPGW hydraulic
software program was used to validate mainline pipe sizes. Catch basin connector pipes
(laterals) were sized using standard hydraulic algorithims (Manning's equation with critical
and normal depth calculations; spreadsheet- based).
