The terms and definitions stated in these General Conditions shall apply to all sections of the Specifications as if set forth fully therein b. The Plans and Specifications with any Addenda are complementary. The indications on the drawings or the regiiirements of the Specifications shall be as binding as though shown and/or required by both. t. All parts of the work specified herein and/or indicated on the Plans may be completed by separate contractors and it shall be the responsibility of each contractor td determine the effect of their work upon the work of others. b. The Contractor shalt perform all work in accordance with all applicable building regulations and ordinances evert though such requirements are not specifically mentioned herein. Any work in conflict with such requirements shall be brought to the attention pf the Owner by the Contractor and the Contractor shall not proceed with such work without the written approval of the Owner. 2. bEFINITIIONS A. Contractor shall mean the bidder performing work directly for the Owner, Contractor agrees that he is fully responsible to the Owner for thacts or omissions of his Subcontractors. Nothing contained in the General Contract shad create any contractual relation between the Owner and Subcontfaetor. �. Owner's Representative shall mean the job superintendent or other person of responsibility employed by the Owner. C. Work shall mean all labor, materials, equipment, services, permits and licenses, necessary to furnish and/or install, in place. all materials, equipment and/or appliances specified in any one section and/or showh on the plane. b. F1 shall mean to purchase and deliver as directed by the Owner, all material, equipment, or appliances specified in any one section and/br shown on the plans. L. Install shall mean all labor, materials, equipmeht, and services necessary to set in place, connect, hook up and/or `make ready for operation all materials, equipment and/or appliances. 3. CHANGES The Owner may make changes, alterations, modifications, and/or corrections to the contract documents before the execution of the Contract and such shall be made in the form of Addendum, ssued in writing to all bidders. All such Addenda shall become a part of the Specifications and/or Tans as if originally included herein. All oral instructions, interpretations and/or modifications, if any, shall not be recognized and shall not be included in any Contract. After execution of the Contract, the Owner may make revisions to the drawings, Plans, or specification by issuance of a Change Order signed by an authorized agent of the Owner, which shall become a part. of the original Contract. 4. JOB FILE The Owner shall furnish the Contractor with the required number sets of all Plans, Specifications, tevisions ordered by the Owner, and Change Orders. 'Me Contractor will furnish his contract, any shop drawings required and a work sheet on which hd will note any deviation pram the Contract not otherwise covered. The Contractor shall keep a field set of Plans upon which deviations are noted, work sheet, shop drawings and miscellaneous documents pertinent to the work in a "Job File' on the job at all times. 5. GUARANTEE The Contractor shall, by execution of this Contract, and upon completion of the entire work described in the Contract, guarantee that all work pe4ormed or material and equipment supplied is full, guaranteed for a period of one year from the date of acceptance (unless specifically stated otherwise in these Specifications or the Agreement). and that during said one year period, all defective workmanship and/or materials shall be repaired and/or replaced, including any work of others which has been damaged by such repair and/or replacement at no additional cost to the Owner. SPECIAL CONDITIONS 1. PROTECTION OF WORK AND PROPERTY A. The Contractor shall protect adjacent private or bublic property as provided by law. 8. The Contractor shalt protect all existing work and landscaping from any 4amage resulting from his operations or those of his Subcontractors. Any such damage shall be repaired by the Contractor to a condition equal to that existing at time of commencing work, as directed by the Owner. 2. LIMITS OF INSURANCE tnsurance coverage shall not be less than the following: A. Workmen's Compensation Statutory $. Public Liability: $1,000,000 C. Automobile (Owned & non -owned): $1,000,000 3. HOLD HARMLESS CLAUSE All work done on the premises, or in connection with the execution of this Contract, shall be at Contractor's risk and the Contractor shall assume any and all liability and will hold harmless the Owner and/or any other person, firm, corporation or organization for whom such contract work is being performed, their agents or employees, or otherwise. 4. OWNER'S STATUS A. The Owner shall have authority to stop the work whenever such stoppage may be necessary in his reasonable opinion to insure proper execution of the Contract. 8. The Owner shall be the interpreter of the conditions of the Contract and judge of its performance. He shall use his powers under the contract to enforce its faithful performance by the Contractor. 5. LAW'S AND REGULATIONS The Contractor shall secure all permits, fees, licensesi post all notices, comply with all local laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to his work asequired by all governing oards, jurisdictions, and/or agencies. The Contractor will pay for all permits unless specifically provided for otherwise by the Owner. 6. CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSIBILITIES The Contractor shall secure all permits, fees, licenses; post all notices, comply with all local laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to his work as fequired by all governing boards, jurisdictions, and/or agencies. The Contractor will pay for all permits unless specifically provided for otherwise by the Owner. 7. AS BUILTS The Contractor shall keep a field set of Plans upon which all deviations from the Flans are noted. These "As -Built" Plans shall be readily availablefor inspectioh at all times, and shall indicate all additions or deletions accurately as they. occur. Upon completion of the project, the Contractor shall submit these ''As-builts" to the owner. 8. HIDDEN OBSTACLES Prior to any excavation, the Contractor shall locate all cables, conduits, sewers, septic tanks and such other utilities as are commonly encountered underground and he shall take proper precaution not to damage or disturb such improvements. If a conflict exists between such obstaclds and the proposed work, he shall promptly notify the Owners representative who will arrange for relocation. Contractor will proceed in the same manner if rock layers or any other condition encountered underground make Changes advisable. 9. LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT'S FUNCTION The Landscape Architect shall perform general field qbservation of work as related to interpretation of Contract Documents when specifically contracted to do so by the Owner. He is the agent or the Owner to the extent provided in the Specifications and when in special instance he is authorized by the owner to act as interpreter of the conditions of the Contract and as judge of its performance. The Landscape Architect does not assume responsibility fbr the quality of work or pfoper performance of the Contractor. 10. HNAL INSPECTION Upon completion of work, Contractor shall notify the Landscape Architect, whd then will arrange with the Owner for final inspection. Any variance or omission shall be noted at this time, and the Contractor shall stipulate when and how he will rectify said variance. When these corrections, if any, have been carried out and the areas work cleaned, the job shall be considered completed and the General Contract executed, IRRIGATION 1. SLkFSAL A, The Contractor shall refer to the General and Special Conditions which form an integral part of this Specificatlon. B, When not otherwise s*ified, workmanship and material shall conform to the local code having jurisdiction. C, The Contractor shall apply for all necessary perrhits and pay for same. 2, SCOPE OF WORK A, The work consists of furnishing labor, tools, machinery, materials, and processes required to complete the Sprinkler Irrigation System described herein and shown on thlc Plans. B, The intent of the Plang and Specifications is to indicate and specify a complete Sprinkler System, installed and ready for use without further cost in labor or materials to the Owner. CI Any item shown in the Specifications and not ort the Plans or on the Plans rid not on the Specifications shall be considered to appear in bbth, except any item or material shown in the Specifications which is obviously not intended to complete the installation. D, In the event of "conflict between the Plans and specification, the Landscape Architect or his representative shall bd consulted. 3. RESPONSIBILITY A, The Contractor shall be responsible for all work to be performed under this contract. No Sub -Contractor shall relieve the Contractor of his liability to complete the work shown on the Plans and indicated in the Specifications. B. The Contractor shall it all times protect his worst from damage and theft add replace all damaged or stolen parts at his expense until the work is accepted in writing by the Owner. C, The Contractor shall protect the Owner's property from injury or loss. All damage to existing property (buildings, utilities, etc.) or planting (trees, shrubs, lawns or ground covers) caused by the Contractor during his operation or as a result of the malfunction of ifistalled work during the guarantee period shall be repaired at the Contractors expense. Dk The Contractor shall darefully note all finish grades before cormmencing Work. Any finish grade changed during the course of his work shall be restored to the origindl contours. 4. EXAMINATION OF PROJECT DRAWINGS AND SITE Prior to submission of his bid, the Contractor shall examine the site, the complete Plans of the project and the Specifications for safne, in addition to thePlans and Specifications for the Sprinkler Irrigation portion of the work. 5. SUBMISSION FOR APPROVAL A, The Contractor shall furnish the articles, equipment, materials or processes specified by name in the Plans and Specifications. No substitution will be allowed without prior written approval by the Owner. B, The Contractor shall submit with the material list, catalog data, and full descriptive literature wherever possible. C, Equipment or materials installed or funished without the prior approval of the Owner may be rejected and the Contractor required to remove such materials from the site at his own expense. D, Manufacturer's warranties shall not relieve. the Contractor of his liability under the guarantee. Such warranty shall only supplement the guarantee. E. Materials shall be of the best quality obtainable, of American manufacture, and shall comply strictly with the Plans and Specifications. 6. MATERIALS A, Steel Steel pipe and steel fittings where indicated on the Drawinqs or specified shall be A.S.A. Schedule 40 galvanized mild steel screwed pipe. B; Brass Pil2e 1.) Brass pipe shall be heavy wall type with threads complying to A.S.A. specifications. 2.) Fittings shall be cast brass or cast bronze threaded joint and shall comply with A.S.A. specifications. Thread on pipe and fittings shall be taper type. C. Plastic Pipe 1.) Plastic pipe shall be extruded from 100% Virgin Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Type 1, Grade 11 (Class 1220) as manufactured by Lasco Industries, Baldwin, Pacific Western, .Johns -Manville or equal. plastic i h 1 2.) All p c p pe shall be continuously and �ennanently marked with the following information: Manufacturer's name, nominal pipe size, PVC 1220, SOR (Standard Dimension Ratio, or the pressure rating in P.5. L), N.S.F. (National Sanitation foundation). 3.) The manufacturer shall also mark the date of extrusion on the pipe. This dating extrusion shall be done in conjunction with records to be held by the manufacturer for two years, covering quality control test, raw material batch number, and other information deemed necessary by the manufacturer. 4.) All plastic pipe to be installed on the non -pressure side of the valves shall be PVC 1220, SOR 21 or 200 PSI, and Sch. 40 as shown on the Plans. All pipe to be installed on the pressure side of valves shall be PVC 1220, SOR 11.5 or 315 PSI, Sch. 40, and Class 200 PVC "ring-tite" as shown (see legend). 5.) Plastic fittings shall be PVC 11. IPS, Schedule 40, N.S.F. and Schedule 30 threaded fittings as shown in the details and as manufactured by Sloane Manufacturing Co., for equal Solvent is to be per pipe manufacturer's recommendations. D, Automatic Controller Controllers shall be as indicated on the Plans. Controllers shall be installed as per manufacturers specifications. Provide two (2) keys minimum to Owner. E. mm All wire shall be OF -approved direct burial wire, Connections on 24 volt wire shall be made by Scotchlock Connector Sealing Pack #3577 as manufactured by the 3M Company, or approved equal. 110 volt or higher voltage line connections shall be made by clamp and waterproofed with 3M Company Scotchcast splicing kits or equal. F. Valve Boxes Valve boxes shall be plastic (Ametek, or equal) gr as per Detail. Box lids shall be marked "R.C.V." or "irrig" as required. Provide two (2) keys each for lockable boxes to Owner. GI Backflow Preventors Backflow preventers to be as indicated on the Pians, and shall be installed to meet all codes and applicable regulations. 7. WSTALLATION A, Site Conditions 1.) All scaled dimensions are approximate. The Contractor shall check and verify all dimensions on the site prior to proceeding with work under this Contract. 2.) Extreme care shall be exercised in excavating and working near existing utilities. Contractor shall be responsible for damage to any utilities. 3.) Should utilities not located or marked be fbund during excavation, the Contractor shall promptly notify the Owner and shall discontinue with work in the area except necessary emergency work to repair or prevent damage until instructions are received from the Owner. 4.) Failure to notify the Owner of discovery of such utilities or damage thereto will result in the Contractor being liable for any and all damage caused to the utilities as a result of his actions. B, Water Sunnly The Contractor shall connect to the water sources as indicated on the Plans C, Workmanship and Procedure The routing of the pressure supply lines as indicated on the Plans is diagrammatic. The Contractor shall install lines in such manner as to conform with the Details without off -setting the various assemblies from the pressure supply line. D, Assemblies No multiple assemblies shall be installed on plastic lines. Each assembly shall be provided with its own outlet line. E. Detail Drawings i All assemblies specified herein shall be installed in accordance with the respective Detail. In the absence of Detail Drawings or Specifications pertaining to the specifid items required to complete the work, the Contractor shall perform such work in accordance with the best standard practice, the manufacturer's instructions and to the satisfaction of the owner. 7. INSTALLATION (Continued) F. Line Clearance All sprinklers lines shall have a minimum clearance of 6" from each other. G. Electrical The Contractor shall be responsible for making electrical connections to the automatic controller and wire circuits from remote control valves to controllers. All wiring shall be routed as shown on tans. All electrical work shall be in accordance with all local and/or county ordinances. Wire sizes to be as per manufacturer's specifications. Tape to main 10' O.C. when parallel. H. F4-iuipment To Be > urnished 1.) The Contractor shall provide as part of this Contract two sets of sprinkler wrenches for adjusting, cleoning or disassembling each type of sprinkler. Two each of any special tools required for any other equipment shall also be furnished. 2.) Two service manuals for all equipment used shall be furnished to the Owner. Manuals may be loose leaf and should show drawings or exploded views of equipnnient and catalog number and prices. 8. EXCAVATION A. Trenches In GenerO 1.) Trenches shall be dug straight and pipe shall have the continuous support of the ditch bottom and shall be laid to an ever, grade. Trenching excavation shall follow the layout Indicated on the Plans and shall be of sufficient width to allow "snaking" of pipe in trench. 2.) All pressure supply lines shall have depth of 18 inches minimum or as shown in the Details and called for in Drawing notes. 3.) All non -pressure lines shall have a depth of 12 inches minimum of as shown in the Details and called for in Drawing notes. 4.) All lines shall have a minimum clearance of six (6) inches from each other and from lines of other trades. B. Backfiffing 1.) Backfill for trenching shall be compacted to dry density equal to the adjacent undisturbed soil and shall conform to the adjacent grades without Oips, sunken areas, humps, or other irregularities. Initial backfill on all lines shall be of a fine granular material with no foreign matter larger than one-half (1/2) inch in size. 2.) If, in the opinion of the Owner, the excavated material is not satisf story for use as backfill, the Contractor shall dispose of this unsatisfactory materia 8. TESTS A. Pressure Test 1.) All pressure lines shall be tested under Hydrostatic pressure of 150 lbs. per square inch, and proven watertight. Contractor shall supply all equipment necessary for testing. 2.) Pressure shalt be sustained in the lines for not less than four hours. If leaks develop, the joints shall be replaced and the test repeated until the entire system is proven watertight. 3.) Tests shall be observed and approved by the Owner prior to backfill. 4.) Upon completion of each phase of the Work, the Contractor shall deck and adjust each sprinkler head to meet the site requirements. B. Inspection of Work 1.) Prior to commencing work the Contractbr shall arrange a meeting with the Owner at which time the Contractor will be inforrhed of specific inspections required and the method of calling for such inspections as the individual work is completed. 2.) In no event shall the Contractor cover up or otherwise remove frorh view any work under this Contract without prior approval of the Owner. Any work covered prior to Inspection may be opened to view by thb Contractor at his expense. 3.) Throughout the project, the Contractor shall transfer all informatioh regarding irrigation dimensions idcluding depth of all buried pipe, location of valves, etc., to the 'As -Built" Plans. C. Guarantee 1.) The entire sprinkler system shall be guaranteed by the Contractor As to material and workmanship, including settling of backfilled areas below grade, for a period of one (1) year following the date of final acceptance of the work. 2.) Should any operational difficulties in connection with the sprinkler system develop within the specified guarantee period, which in the opinion of the Owner may be due to, inferior material and/or workmanship, skid difficulties shall be irmhediately corrected by the Contractor to the satisfaction of die Owner at no additional cost. D. Temnorary Repairs The Owner reserves the right to make temporary repairs as necessary to keep the slirinkler system equipment in operating condition. The exercise of this right by the Owner shall not relieve the Contractor of his responsibilities under the term of the guarantee as herein specified. LANDSCAPING The general and Special Conditions of the Contract apply to the work of this section the same as though written herein. 2. SCOPE OF WORK A. Furnish all labor, materials, and equipment to provide and install soil pre aration, headerboard, planting, and/or related work as described herein or on the Plans. B. The Contractor shall adequately protect the work, adjacent property, and the public, and shall be responsible for ahy damage, injury, loss due to his acts or neglect. C. The Contractor shall submit unit costs to the Owner for additions or deletions to the Contract Drawings. 3. SAMPLES, TESTS, AND, INSPECTIONS A. The source of the plant material shall be furnished if requested by the Owner or Landscape Architect. B. Any sampling, testing, or inspection costs of materials are to be borne by the Contractor, and copies of inspection certificates, required by lAw, shall be furnished to the Owner without charge. 4. MATERIALS A. Ply 1.) LIon n la t See list of plant materials on Planting Pian. 2.) Coaltions: Plants shall be symmetrical, typical for variety and sp cies, sound, healthy, vigorous, free from plant disease, insect pests or their eggs, excessive abrasions, or other objectionable disfigurements, and shall have healthy, normal root systems, well filling their containers, but not to the point of being root bound. Tree trunks shall be sturdy and well hardened off. Plants shall not be pruned prior to delivery except as authorized by the Landscape Architect. In no case shall trees be topped or pruned before delivery. Plants shall bb grown in nurseries which have been inspected by the State Department of Agriculture and have complied with its regulations. 3.) Identification: Plants shall be of the variety and size shown on the dans, and shall conform to the requirements herein. One of each bundle or lot shall be tagged with plant name in accord with recomuendations of the American Association of Nurserymen. 4.) Substitutions: Substitutions for the indicated plant materials will be permitted, provided the substitute materials are approved in advance by the Landscape Architect, and the substitutions are made at no additional cost to the Owner except for the variations so authorized, all substitute plant materials shall conform to the requirements of these specifications. If accepted substitute materials are of less value thah those indicated or specified, the Contract price will be adjusted in accordance with the provisions of the Contract. 5.) Plant Inspection and r 'ection: Root condition of plants may be determined by the Landscape Architect through the removal of earth from the roots of at least two (2) plants but not more than (2) of the total humber of species from each source. B. Soil Amendments SEE PLANTIN8 PLANS C. Hydroseedinit Materials (If Applicable) 1.) Fertilizer shall be a commercial grade uniform in compositioh, dry and free flowing, of analysis as noted in specs, and particle size of not less than 2k through a number 48 mesh. Fertilizet shall be delivered to the site in the original unopened container, bearing the manufacturer's guaranteed analysis. Any fertilizer that becomes caked or damaged wilt not be acceptable. 2.) Mulch material shall be clean, natural wood cellulose fiber.14atural wood cellulose fibef shall be processed in such a manne that it will contain no growth or germination inhibiting factors and shall be dyed green to facilitate metering of materials. It shall be manufactured in such a manner thlafter each addition and agitation in slurry tanks with fertilizer', seed, water, and other aved additives; the fibers in the material will become uniformly suspended to fa homogeneous slurry; and that when hydraulically sprayed, will uniformly cover the ground with shed and mulch, and which after application, will allow the absorption of moisture and will allow rainfall to percolate to the underlying soil. The Codtraetor shall utilize suppliers who are prepared to certify that laboratory and field testing of their product has been accomplished, and that it meets all of the foregoing requirements based on testing. Weight specifications of this material from suppliers, and for all applications, shall refer only to air dry Weight of the fiber material. Air dry weight is based on the norriial weight standards of the Technical Association of the Pulp and Paper Industry for wood cellulose and is considered equivalent to 10% moisturd. Each package of the cellulose fiber shall be marked by the manufacturer to show the air dry weight content. 3.) Seed used for any reasons specified in the Plans or listed in the Specifications shall be labeled and shall be furnished in sealed standard containers with duplicate signed copies of a statement from the vendor, certifying that each container of seed delivered is fully labeled in accordance with the California State Agricultural Cdde and is equal to or better than the requincments of these specifications. Seed which has become wet, moldy, or otherwise damaged in transit or storage will not be accepted. Slubstitute seed species for hydroseed shall be made only with approval of Landscape Architect. The Contractor shall place order for seed from a Distributor as soon as possible to avoid any delays in the project due to seed shortages. 4.) Binding agent shall be Ecology Controls "M -Binder", or approved equal. D. Seed Mix (If Applicable) SEE PLANTING PLANS S. INSTALLATION A. Scheduliu& Plarnting shall not commence until completion of all construction Work, grading, soil preparation, add sprinkler installation. Al container stock shall be spotted on-site by the Contractor per plans prior to planting. Plant pits shall not be excavated until the approval of plant locations has been given by the Landscape Architect. g, Soil Preparation 1.) Cultivate all areas to be planted and incorporate soil amendments to a uniform depth of at least g", and for this entire depth the sort shall be made loose and friable. 2.) At time bf planting, all areas to be Olanted or seeded shall be free of stones, stumps, roots or other deleterious matter 1" (one inch) in diameter or Larger and shall be free from all wire, plaster, or similar objects that would be a hinderance to planting or maintenance. 3.) Weed Cbntrol (Hydroseeded Areas Only): Prior to any plant'ng or application of hydroseed, contractor shall irrigate areas to receive hydroseed thoroughly for two weeks. Upon germination of weed seed, spray areas with approved systemic weed killer. After weeds have died, remove and repeat process; beginning with an additional pre -irrigation period, and follow with a second application of spray and subsequent weed removal. Contractor shall wait a period of tvyo weeks (or as per manufacturer's recormiendations) following last application of weed killer, at which time the hydro -mulch shall be applied. C. Spacing When plant material is spaced in rows, the total dimension shall be Verified and the plants equally spaced within the designated area. Where plant material is shown in a "loose" pattern, the Contractor shall space the material as shown on Plans or as directed by the landscape Architect. Grotindcover material shall be triangularly spaced per dirhensions indicated on Plans. D. Plant Pits Plant pits shall be dug with level bottoms with widths and depths twice the diameter of root ball. Pits for trees shall be duq square. Fill pits with water and allokv to drain out. E. Removal Froin Containers All canned stock 7 gallon size and under shall be vertically cut on two opposite sides with approved instrument for the purpose. Fifteen gallon size containers shall be cut on four opposite sides. F. Handling No canned plaht material shall be planted if the ball is broken or cracked either before or during the process of planting. G. Se-�: Plants shall bear same relation to soil level when planted as they dict when in container. Each plant shall be placed in center of plant pit. H. Backfill Mix SEE PLAN`nNG PLANS I, Backfill Pmebdure Backfill material into plant pits shall be tamped firm and a shallow basin formed around the plant to hold a lough water to saturate the root ball and backfill mix. Water -in plants immediately after planting. On slopes, shrubs and trees shall be basined with a berm on downhill side, four inches (4") above crown of root ball. J. Tree Staking Stake all trees as shown in Details. Drive stake into firm soil next to root ball on windward side of tree and backfill with prepared soil mix. Tree and stakes shall be vertical in all cases. One (1) gallon trees shall be planted with stake removed. See notes on details. K. Tree Guying Guy all 36" box and larger plant material with at least three (3)wires (9 gauge) in triangular pattern. Wire shall be encased in 1/2" white polyethylene pipe, front tree -to -ground. Wire shall be encased in new rubber hose where it cbmes in contact with tree. L. Hydroseeding (If Applicable) 1.) After preparation of soil has been dompleted, the areas to be seeded shall be brought to a finish grade, with the finish surface being smooth and even, and reasonably well firmed. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to makd the entire area smooth and even, to insure that finish grades shall be generally one irf ch below the surface of walks, curbs, paved areas, and yard boxes In all cases without abrupt changes in gradient (yard boxes shall be level). 2.) The ground surface shall be inspec d by the Landscape Architect prior to seeding to determine suitability for planting. The Contractor shall obtain such approval before seeding. 3.) F4uil2=nt and Aunlic, ation: Hydraulic equipment used for the application of slurry shall have a built-in agitation system with an operating capacity sufficient to agitate, suspend and homogeneously mixabove sl -airy. Distribution lines shall belar e enough to prevent stoppage and to brovide even distribution of the slurry over the ground. The pump shall be capable of exerting at least 150 psi at the nozzle or sufficient additional pressure for proper covdrage. The slurry tank shall have a minimum capacity of 1,500 gallons and shall be mounted on a traveling unit whidh will place the slurry tank and spray nozzles within sufficient proximity to the areas to be seeded so as to provide uniform distribution With th engine at half throttle, water shall be added to the talk. When the water level has reached the height of the agitator shaft. good recirculation shall be established and at this timq the seed shall be added. F rtilizer shall then be added to the mixture followed by wooq pulp mulch. The wood pup mulch shall only be added to the mixture after the seed and when the tank is at least orae -third filled with water. The engine throttle shall be opened to full speed when the tank is half filled with water. All the wood pulp mulch shall be added by the time the tank Is two -third to three-fourths full. Spraying shall commence when the tank is full. 4.) Application: The operator shall spray with a uniform, visible coat by using the green color of the wood pulp as a guide. The slurry shall be applied in a sweeping motion, in an arched stream so as to fall like vain allowing the wood fibers to build on each other until a good coat is achieved and the material is spread at the required rate per acre. 5.) Time Litnit: All slurry mixture which has not been applied to the Slopes within four hours after mixing will be rejected and removedfrom the project at the Contractor's expense► 6.) WaterinLy shall be as follows: a.) Prior to hydroseeding, the area shall be irrigated in order to provide a moist seed W for the hydroseed application. b.) Hydroseed areas shall receive several consecutive waterings the day of the hydroseeding to thoroughly saturate soil. c.) After initial irrigation, water shall be applied as often and in sufficient amounts as conditions may require, to. keep the soil wet above, around and below the root systems of the plants (until germination is complete.) 7.) Reseeding: All bare spots shall be feseeded by the Contractor per Specifications within 90 days of installation. M. Sodded Lawn (If Applicable) 1.) Sod shall be laid in a staggered pattern with no gaps or voids 2.) Roll all sodded areas with a roller weighing approximately. 16 pounds per lineal inch to compact the soil around the roots and provide a smooth, even mowing surface. N. Flatted Ground Cover 1.) Rooted cuttings shall be planted sufficiently deep to cover all roots and spaced as specified in ground cover list on Planting Plan. 2.) Ground cover plants (rooted cuttins) shall have been grown In flats and shall remain in those flats until time for transplanting. At time of transplantidg the flat soil shall contain sufficient moisture so that the soil does not fall apart when luting plants from flat. Each plant shall be planted with its propbrtionate amount of the flat soil in a manner that will insure minimum of disturbance to the root system. 3.) Rooted cuttings shall not be allowed to dry out before or while being planted. Wilted plants shall not be accepted. 4.) At time of planting all ground cover plants, the earth around each plant shall be finned sufficieritly to force out all air pockets. 0, Headerboard (If Applicable) Headerboard shall be installed as Indicated on the Plans and as herein specified. It shall be laid true to line and grade, and in a workmanlike manner. The top of all stakes shall be flush with the adjacent finish grade (or below). P. Quantities In all cases, quantities of plant material shall be furnished as needed to complete work as indicated on the Plans, including reseeding, redresssing, and maintenance (replacements) during the contract period. Q. Protection Contractor shall carefully and continuously protect all areas included in the Contract, including lawn areas; plant materials, supports, etc. until final acceptance of the work by the Owner or his representative. R. Cleallup After all planting operations are completed, Contractor shall remove all trash, excess soil, empty plant containers, or other accumulated debris from the site ano extra cost to Owner. Contractor shall repair all scars, ruts, or chars in area caused by wort operations. Areas shall be left in a neat and orderly condition. S. Inspections (Planting Phase) 1.) Contractor shall give forty-eight (48) hours notice and set appointment for all inspections by the Landscape Architect. 2.) Suggested Inspection and/or field observation by Landscape Architect shall be scheduled for the following operations: a.) Approval of all plant material. b.) Thee and shrub placement PkIOR to digging holes and to planting. c.) Approval of ground cover lines and headerboard PRIOR to planting. d.) Final Inspection 3.) Inspection shall be called for at the end of all planting operations for the purpose of determining compliance with plans and specifications, intent, workmanship, and cleanup, Contractor shall secure Witten verification of inspection data, any corrections required to work, and limits of inspected area before beginnirig the described establishment work. 4.) A final inspection shall be made at the end of the establishment period for full approval of the work area. 5.) In the event the Contractor requestg inspection of work, and said work is substantially incomplete, the Contractor shall be responsible for inspection costs. T. Guarantee 1.) All shrubs, ground covers, lawn areas and 15 gallon size trees or less shall be guaranteed as to growth and health for a period of ninety (90) days after final acceptance by the Ownner or his representative; box sized trees shall be guaranteed for a period of one (1) year. 2.) Plants Which die or lose more than 30% of their original leaves shall be replaced under this Section. 3.) The Codtractor, within fourteen (14) days of written notification by the Owner, shall remove and replace all guaranteed plant materials which for Any reason fail to meet the requirements of the guarantee. All plant material replaced shill be guaranteed for the original period, starting from the date of replacement. U. Establishmenj Period 1.) Contractor shall continuously mairitain all areas included in the Contract during the progress of the work, through the Establishment Period, and until final acceptance of the work. 2.) After all work indicated on the Plahs or herein specified has teen completed, inspected, and app oved by the Landscape Architect, the Contractor shall commence a 90 -day Establishment Period, unless agreed upon otherwise with the Owner. 3.) Establishment work includes all mowing (at height approved by Owner), watering, weedin , reseeding, mulching, cultivating, spraying, and trimming necessary to bring the planed areas to a healthy growing condition, and any additional work needed to keep the areas neat, edged, and attractive. 4.) Any day the Contractor fails to addquately water, replace unsuitable plants, weed, and/or provide other work determified to be necessary by the Landscape Architect, will NOT be credited as part of the Establishment Period. 5.) During the Establishment Period, any plant indicating weakness or probability of dying, shall be replaced by the Contractor at his Own expense. 6.) All basins around shrubs and trees shall be maintained at a four inch (4") depth throughout Establishment Period, unless otherwise instructed by the Owner or his representative. 7.) Tree stales which for any reason ate damaged or rendered inadequate for support shall be repaifed and restored to their original condition.. 8.) Constant diligence shall be maintained for the advent of dise-ase, insects, and/or rodent infestations and proper preventative or control measures takefr. , 9.) All shrubs and trees shall be maintained in their natural shapes. Tall or scraggly brancheshall be thinned out where necessary. In no case shall trees or shrubs be trireme by heading or shearing. Any plants severely pruned in this manner may be removed and replaced at Contractor's expense. A 10.) On the 60th day of the Establishment Period, all lawn and ground cover areas shall receive $5 pounds of Gro -Power per 1,000 sq. ft., or approved equal. 11.) At completion of Establishment Period, all areas included in the Contract shall be substantially clean and free of debris and seeds. All plant materials shall be alive, . healthy, and free of infestations. 12.) Any erosion or slippage of soil caused by watering shall be repaired by the Contractor at his expense. . 13.) All walks, curbs, and gutters shalla kept clear of debris, mutt, dust, and standing water . by sweeping, mopping, or hosing down as required to maintain cleanliness throughout. V Written Notice . At the end of te specified Establishment: Period, the Contractor shall present written notice to the Owner thathe has completed the regdired mainenance, and that any further maintenance will be the responsibility of the Owner.
