GENERAL NOTES:
1. CONSTRUCTION PERMITS SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE CITY OF FONTANA COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT
DEPARTMENT, ENGINEERING DIVISION, THE COUNTY OF SAN BERNARDINO, AND CALTRANS PRIOR TO THE START OF
ANY WORK. INSPECTION COORDINATION SHALL BE REQUESTED AT LEAST TWO WORKING DAYS
PRIOR TO THE START OF ANY WORK IN PUBLIC RIGHT-OF-WAY WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS. CALL (909) 350-7610
2. ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE 1997 STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION, "GREEN BOOK", LATEST EDITION AND THE LATEST
SUPPLEMENT; THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (CALTRANS) STANDARD PLANS
AND STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, DATED 1992; CALTRANS TRAFFIC MANUAL; LATEST EDITION, OR LATEST
NON -METRIC EDITION, UNLESS OTHERWISE DIRECTED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONFORM TO ALL TRAFFIC CONTROL POLICIES, METHODS AND PROCEDURES DESCRIBED
IN THE CALTRANS TRAFFIC CONTROL MANUAL, CHAPTER 5 - MANUAL OF TRAFFIC CONTROLS FOR
CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE WORK ZONES, LATEST EDITION, OR LATEST NON -METRIC EDITION, AND THE
W.A.T.C.H. (WORK AREA TRAFFIC CONTROL HANDBOOK), LATEST EDITION.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REFER TO THE CITY ENGINEER IN THE EVENT OF A CONFLICT OR POTENTIAL CONFLICT
WITH THE PLANS AND/OR SPECIFICATIONS FOR THIS PROJECT.
5. UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE ALL SIGNING, STRIPING, BARRICADES, AND
OTHER TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES TO THEIR ORIGINAL CONDITION, OR TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CITY ENGINEER.
6. ALL STRIPING AND MARKINGS SHALL CONFORM TO THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, STANDARD PLANS AND
SPECIFICATIONS AND THE STATE TRAFFIC MANUAL, LATEST NON -METRIC EDITION.
7. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN TWO WAY TRAFFIC AT ALL TIMES UNLESS OTHERWISE APPROVED BY THE
CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER.
8. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN ACCESS FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS AND BUSINESSES AT ALL TIMES. A
MINIMUM 12 FOOT LANE SHALL BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AREA FOR RESIDENTS
AND EMERGENCY VEHICLES.
9. CONSTRUCTION OPERATIONS SHALL BE CONDUCTED IN SUCH A MANNER AS TO CAUSE AS LITTLE
INCONVENIENCE AS POSSIBLE TO THE PUBLIC, ABUTTING PROPERTY OWNERS, AND THE TRAVELING PUBLIC.
10. ALL SIGNS SHALL BE REFLECTORIZED OR ILLUMINATED.
11. TRAFFIC SIGN DIMENSIONS, COLOR AND LETTERING SHALL CONFORM TO THE LATEST CALTRANS SIGN
SPECIFICATION SHEETS. SIGN CODES SHOWN HEREON ARE TO CONFORM TO CALTRANS SPECIFICATION SHEET
CODES. TRAFFIC SIGN SIZE SHALL BE STANDARD UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON THE PLANS.
12. ALL SIGNS SHALL BE MOUNTED ON GALVANIZED STEEL POSTS, UNLESS OTHERWISE SHOWN ON THE PLANS, PER
CITY STANDARD DETAIL 139. THE BOTTOM OF ALL POST MOUNTED SIGNS SHALL BE SEVEN (7) FEET
ABOVE THE FINISHED SURFACE.
13. SIGNS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN SHADOWS OR OBSTRUCTED LOCATIONS.
14. SIGNS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN EXCESS OF 15 FEET FROM THE EDGE OF THE TRAVELLED WAY. PORTABLE
SIGN STANDARDS SHALL BE TIED DOWN OR WEIGHTED DOWN WITH SANDBAGS TO PREVENT TOPPLING.
15. THE WORK ZONE SHALL BE ROUTINELY INSPECTED AND MAINTAINED TO ENSURE PROPER VISIBILITY AND
OPERATION OF ALL TRAFFIC CONTROL AND ADVANCE WARNING DEVICES.
16. CONTRACTOR SHALL REPLACE ANY AND ALL TRAFFIC DETECTOR LOOPS DAMAGED DURING CONSTRUCTION PER APPLICABLE CITY,
COUNTY, AND/OR CALTRANS STANDARDS.
17. THESE PLANS INDICATE VEHICULAR TRAFFIC CONTROL IN THE WORK AREA DURING CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES. ADDITIONAL
TRAFFIC CONTROLS, TRAFFIC SIGNS, AND/OR BARRICADES MAY BE NECESSARY OR REQUIRED IN THE FIELD AS DIRECTED BY THE
CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PLACEMENT OF ANY ADDITIONAL DEVICES NECESSARY
TO ASSURE SAFETY TO THE PUBLIC AT ALL TIMES DURING CONSTRUCTION.
18, EXACT LOCATION OF ALL EQUIPMENT AND CONTROL DEVICES SHALL BE APPROVED BY THE ENGINEER. ADDITIONAL WARNING
CONSTRUCTION SIGNS AND/OR TRAFFIC SAFETY EQUIPMENT MAY BE REQUIRED BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
19, ALL EXISTING STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKINGS THAT ARE IN CONFLICT AND/ OR ARE NO LONGER APPLICABLE WITH
THIS PLAN SHALL BE REMOVED OR COVERED TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CITY TRAFFIC ENGINEER PRIOR TO ANY CHANGE
IN THE TRAFFIC PATTERN.
