Speed Hump Specifications
1. Speed humps are to be constructed of asphalt concrete (A. C.). A. C. shal I be
3/8" DAR 4000 maximum aggregate size or City approved equal.
2. The pavement surface shall be thoroughly cleaned by sweeping and flushing
or other means to remove all loose particles of dirt and all other extraneous
materials immediately before applying the tack coat to a dry surface.
3. A tack coat of either AR 4000/AR 8000 paving asphalt or SS -1 h emulsified
asphalt or City approved equal shall be applied at a rate specif ej in the 2000
Green Book to dry pavement area to be surfaced.
4. The screeded asphalt shape is to be compacted by rolling to the specified
speed hump profile. Acceptable tolerance will be %4' variance to the contract
checkpoints.
5. Each speed hump is to be placed in a continuous operation to minimize delay
to local traffic. Continuous operation will start with pavement cleaning and
end with final rolling/compacting of A.C. to final specified hump shape and
height.
6. A screed board conforming to the design standard for the shaping of the
speed humps shall be fabricated for shaping the hump profile.
7. Prior to pavement marking installations, a pavement seal coat, Guard Top or
City approved equal, shall be applied to further protect speed hump from
erosion and raveling.
