Unless shown or noted otherwise, "typical. details" and "general notes" shall be used wherever applicable. 3. Unless specifically detailed on these drawings, contractor shall furnish and install adequate shoring, C). bracing;, etc. required to safely execute all work and shall be fully responsible :For the same. FOUNDATIONS: le Foundation in designed based on the recommendations contained in the soil investigation report dated June 30, 1.977 and prepared by Calvin Malinka, Chief, Laboratory Section, San Bernardino County Flood Control District. 2. Soil bearing value for footing design is 10000 P.S.F. The footings shall. be founded at least IS inches below the lowest adjacent grade, and 12 inches minimum into compacted fill or natural soil. 3. Rough grading of site or site preparation shall be done in accordance with the provisions of the above mentioned report and any additional requirement deemed necessary by the Soil Engineer. 4. The tops of all excavations shall be protected against heavy surcharge loads and from erosion due to rainfall. surface runoff during the entire construction period. CONCRETE: 1. Portland Cement shall- be TYPE I or IT, conforming to A.S.T.M. specification C 150. Aggregate shall be normalweight(145 lb./ cu. ft.) conforming to A.S.T.M. specification C 33 with proven shrinkage characteristics of less than 0.04%. 2. All concrete shall be from a design mix of 2500 PS.T. @ 28 days, but design is based on Standard 2000 P.ST. concrete. Continuous inspection is not required. 3. No pipes or ducts shall be placed in structural concrete unless specifically detailed. See architectural and mechanical drawings for location of sleeves and other inserts to be cast into concrete. 4. Vibration of concrete shall be in accordance with the general provisions outlined in Portland Cement Association specification ST 26. 5. Concrete shall be amintained in a moist condition for a minimum of 5 days after its placement; approved curing compounds may be used in lieu of moist curing. MASONRY: 1. Concrete block units shall be grade "A" conforming to the A.S.T.M. Specification C 90. Type to be chosen by the Architect. 2. Mortar shall be TYPE S consisting of I part Portland Cement, % part lime putty, and 3 parts damp loose sand. Aggregate for mortar shall -conform to AoST.M. C 144. 3. Grout shall consist of I part Portland Cement, 3 parts sand, and not more than 1/10 part lime permitted. For grout spaces of 2 inches or more add 2 parts pea gravel. Grout shall. obtain 2000 P.S.I. minimum @ 28 days. Provide tests if required by Building Official. Aggregate shall conform to A.S.T.M. C 404. 4. The thickness of grout between block units and reinforcing steel shall not be less than -1-9 inch and between parallel bars not less than 3/4/ inch. REINFORCING STEEL: 1. Reinforcing steel shall be deformed bars of intermediate grade conforming to A.S.T.M. A 615 grade 40. Mesh reinforcing shall be 6 X 6/10 X 10 conforming to A.S.T.M. specification A 185, 2. Reinforcement marked continuous may be spliced by lapping 30 bar diameters in concrete, 40 bar diameters in masonry with a 24 inch minimum lap in each case. All splices shall be located as detailed on plans. 3. Provide spacer bars, chairs, spreaders, blocks, etc, as required to securely hold steel in place. 4. Dowels from footings shall be of the same size and spacing as vertical walls and columns reinforcement, unless otherwise noted on plans. STRUCTURAL STEEL & MISCELLANEOUS IRON$ 1. Structural steel and miscellaneous iron shall conform to A.S.T.M. specification A 36. Pipe columns shall conform to A.S.T.M. specification A 53 grade, "B". Bolts shall conform to A.S.T.M. specification A 307. 2. Welding shall be done by electric shielded ark process using E-70XX electrodes. All welds shall be uniform; in size and appearance, and free of pinholes, porosity, undercutting or other defects. All butt welds shall be full penetration, 3. All field welding shall be performed by qualified welders approved by the Building Official, Welds are designed at half stress; no continuous inspection is required. 4. Fabricator shall submit shop drawings to Structural Engineer for approval prior to start fabrication. Fabrication shall conform to A.I.S.C. specifications. WOOD FRAMING: 1. Structural framing members shall be as follows unless noted otherwise on plans: a. All horizontal framing members shall be structural grade No. I D.F. b. All posts shall be structural grade No I D.F. Coo All other vertical framing members shall be standard grade D.F. 2. All bolts shall be standard machine bolts with M.I. or steel PL washers when head or nut bears on wood. Tighten all bolts before plastering. 3. Holes for bolts shall be drilled with a bit 1/32 to 1/16 larger than the nominal bolt diameter, 4. No structural member shall be cut without the approval of the Structural Engineer. 5. Provide I X 6 diagonal let -in brace at each end of each wall and at 25'-0" O.C. maximum between unless noted otherwise. 6# Typical sill bolting shall be 5/8" 0 X 12" anchor bolts at 4'-0" O.C. Provide 1 bolt within 9" of each end of each sill piece. 7* Sill plates for interior wall shall be connected with 1/411 0 X 311 power driven pins with cadmium washers. Spacing shall be 2'-0" O.C. for bearing walls and 41-0" O.C. for nonbearing partitions, unless noted otherwise. S. For nailing of lumber see Table 25-P of the U.B.C. 9. Plywood for roof and floors shall be Standard C -D with exterior glue conforming to PS 1-66. 10. Plywood for shear walls shall be Structural I conforming to PS 1-66. 11.
