BLOW OFF RELIEF VALVE
Relief valve to be furnished and installed on pump system by pump manufacturer. Vatve shall be
set at minimurn of 10 PSI and maximum of 25 PSI above normal main line operating pressure.
Water hammer. surge pressures or abnormal pressure above the valve setting shall immediately
open the valve to full open and relieve the excess pressure to a suitable discharge area. The
valve shall be 2 1/2' flanged, 200 PSI working pressure, and shall meet the same specifications
and construction features as the pressure regulating / check valve. A butterfly shut - off valve
shall be installed upstream of the relief valve for servicing. A pressure gauge, 0-200 PSI liquid
filled, with brass shut - oft cock shall be installed in the suction port of the relief valve to sot the
valve.
FLQW SWITCH
The flow switch shall be controNed by a limit switch in a NEMA 4 enclosure, mounted on the
pressure regulator valve, with valve stop to be set at a predetermined flow rate to trip the limit
switch. An adjustable 0-60 second timer relay shaN be included in the pump panel to operate in
.conjunction with the limit / flow switch.

OBVIOUS IN THE FIELD THAT UNKNOWN OBSTRUCTIONS, GRADE DIFFERENCES OR DIFFERENCES IN
THE AREA DIMENSIONS EXIST THAT MIGHT NOT HAVE BEEN CONSIDERED IN THE ENGINEERING. SUCH
OBSTRUCTIONS OR DIFFERENCES SHALL BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE OWNER'S
AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE. IN THE EVENT THIS NOTIFICATION IS NOT PERFORMED, THE
IRRIGATION CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME FULL RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY REVISIONS NECESSARY.
11. ALL SPRINKLER EQUIPMENT NOT OTHERWISE DETAILED OR SPECIFIED SHALL BE INSTALLED AS
PER MANUFACTURER'S RECOMMENDATIONS AND SPECIFICATIONS.
12. ADV (ANTI DRAIN VALVES) UNITS AS SHOWN IN THE DETAILS ARE FOR TYPICAL INSTALLATION
ONLY. AND MAY NOT BE REQUIRED ON ALL HEADS. PRIOR TO INSTALLATION THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
VERIFY WITH THE ON-SITE GRADES. IF THERE IS AN ELEVATION DIFFERENCE OF 24" OR MORE

INSTALLATION OF ALL IRRIGATION EQUIPMENT IN THE PUBLIC RIGHT OF WAY SHALL CONFORM TO
SECTIONS 308 AND 212 OF THE "STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION
LATEST EDITION" AND THE CITY OF FONTANA PARK PLANNING AND LANDSCAPE DEVELOPMENT -
SECTION, ENGINEERING DIVISION LANDSCAPE CONSTRUCTION STANDARD DETAILS
PUMP AND COMPONENTS
A. Provide a completely automatic "on-off" pumping system in accordance with the contract
documents and all ordinances and codes governing the type of work. Pump shall be
operational through the irrigation controllers as well as manually from a starter panel.
B. Booster pump system shall be a CONSTANTFLO Model # 200BP81 P4-10.0
CDEFKGHIKMX, factory prepiped and prewired and mounted on a steel base hot dipped
galvanized after fabrication, with a capacity of 200 GPM at 81' TDH, (35 LBS. boost)
exclusive of pressure drop through the prefabricated system.
Pumps shall be horizontally mounted end suction close coapted, bronze fitted
construction, with bronze impeller and wear rings, bronze shaft sleeve, mechanical seed
__ with ni-resist seat, integral flanged suction and discharge connections, keyed motor
shaft, back pull-out type, with centerline discharge for automatic venting. Pump volute,
backplate and motor bracket shall be protected with fusion bonded epoxy coating on the
interior and exterior, and oven cured. Impeller bolts, nuts, washers, etc., shall be
minimum Gracie 5/316 stainless steel.
C. Motors shall be 1,750 RPM, 10.0 HP. 460 Volts, 3 Phase and shall be non -overloading
on the full range of the impeller curve without use of service factor. Single phase motors
shall be TEFC with a 1.15 service factor through 10 HP.
Three phase motors shall be TEFC with a minimum 1.25 service factor through 30 HP,
and a minimum 1.15 service factor over 30 HP. Threaded motor shafts and 56C frame
motors are not acceptable. A 20OV-3 phase specially wound motor shall be used on a
208V-3 phase power.
Note: Contractor to verify voltage / phase available prior to ordering pump equipment.
Steel skid base shall be minimum 3" welded angle iron or channel, hot dipped galvanized
after fabrication. Heavier gauge construction shall be used as required to support the
equipment being instated. Skid base to have full width angle iron brackets at each end
of the skid, with minimum 9/16" holes each corner for bolting to concrete with galvanised
anchors.
Piping and fittings sMN be flanged spools of schedule 40 steel and class 150 weld
flanges, hot dipped galvanized after fabrication. Spacer spools shall also be welded
spools and galvanized. Threaded fittings are not acceptable. Companion flanges at
suction and discharge header connections shall be class 150 steel flanges, galvanized.
Where external brass piping is connected to the pump system, a galvanized pipe nipple
shall be installed in the header companion flanges and connected to the external brass
piping with dielectric unions, or by use of dielectric flanges.
All nuts, bolts, washers, plugs and bushings used in the assembly of the prefabricated
pump station shall be 316 slaw ess steel.
D. Gauges shall be 2-1/2'' diameter, liquid filed for vibration dampening, 0-200 # range,
stainless steel casing, with brass needle valve shut-off cocks. AN nipples and fittings to
be minimum 1/4" 303 stainless steel.
E. Check valves and butterfly valves, including handles, shaN be sandblasted and fusion
bonded epoxy coated. AN nuts and bolts to be Grade 5/316 stainless steel. Shut-off
valves to be butterfly kig type, wafer style, driNed and tapped, with bronze disc, capable
of remaining installed in piping. Handles shat be 10 position adjustable, with chrome
memory plate and 316 stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers. Check valves shah be
. Mueseco Sure -Check. bronze double -disc, spring operated.

Nuts and bolts: All nuts and bolts used in construction of the pump system and the sheet
metal enclosure shall be 316 stainless steel. Plated nuts and bolts are not acceptable.

Sheet metal enclosure shall be minimum 16 gauge galvanized sheet metal. Legs and
rails, or other structural support, shall be minunum 1-1/4" x 1/8" angle iron, hot dipped
galvanized, or 3/16" aluminum angle.

Mounting feet to be chrome plated angle, attached to legs, and bolted to steel skid.

provide an irrigation system with complete coverage.
The contractor is responsible for say misinterprstatiow
of the drawings prior to or during construction. Should
any discrepancy arise as to the interpretation of the
drawings or specifications, the final decisions in the
matter will rest with the Agency's Authorized
Rspreseata- tive.

1.05 SUBMITTALS
A.
i.
The Contractor shall furnish the articles, equipment,
materials, or processes specified by name in the
drawings sad specifications. No substitution will be
allowed without prior written acceptance by the Agency's
Authorized Representa- tin.
2.
Complete material list shall be submitted prior to
performingany work. Material list shall include the
manufacturer, model aunmber sad description of all
materials and equipment to los used.
3.
Equipment or materials Installed or furnished without
.
prior approval of the Agency's Authorized Representative
may los rejected and the Contractor required to remove
such materials from the site at his own expense.
4.
Approval of any iter, alternate or substitute indicates
only that the product or products apparently meet the
requirements of the drawings and specifications on the
basis of the information or samples submitted.
S.
Manufacturer's warranties shall not relieve the
Contractor of his liability under the guarantee. Such
warranties shall only supplement the guaraatse.
i.
If equipment is as specified, no manufacturer
descriptive catalogs are necessary in submittal.
111.
1.
The Contractor shall provide and keep up to date and
complete "record" set of blue -line ozalid prints which
shall be corrected daily and show every change from the
-
original drawings and specifications and the exact
"record" locations, sizes, and kinds of equipment.
Prints for theme purposes may be obtained from the
Agency's Authorized Representative at cost. This set of
drawings shall be kept on the site and shall be used
only as a record set.
2.
The drawings shall also serve as work progress sheets
and shall be the basis for measurement and payment for
work completed. These drawings shall be available at
all times for site reviews and shall be kept in a
location designated by the Agency's Authorized
Representative. Should the record blueline record
progress sheets not be available for review or not up tp
date at the time of say site reviews (refer to 3ectioa
3.02-8-3 -Observation Schedule), it will be assumed no
work has been completed and the Contractor will be
assessed the cost of that site visit at the current
billing rate of the Agency's Authorized Represen-tative.
No other inspections shall take place prior to payment
of that aasessmeat.
3.
The Contractor shall make neat and legible notations on
the record progress sheets daily as the work proceeds,
showing the work as actually installed. For example,
should a piece of equipment be installed is a location ,
that does not match the plan, the Contractor must •
indicate that equipment has been relocated in a graphic
manner so as to match the original symbols as indicated
-
in the irrigation legend. The relocated equipment and
dimensions will then be transferred to the original
record plan at the proper time.
4.
Before the date of the final site review, the Contractor
shall transfer all information from the "record" prints
to a sepia mylar or similar mylar material procured from
the Agency's Authorized Representative. All work shall
be in water- proof India ink and applied to the mylar by
a technical pea mads expressly for use on mylar
material. Such pen shall be similar to those
manufactured by Rapidograph, Kueffel 4 Esser, or Faber
Castell. The dimensions shall be made so as to be
easily readable even on the final controller chart (see
Section i.OSC). The original mylar "record" plea shall
be submitted to the Agency's Authorized Representative
.

The Contractor stall 3imension from two permanent points
of reference, building corners, sidewalk, or road
intersections, etc., the location of the following

pressure lines (dimension madimum one hundred (100)
feet along routing).
e. sprinkler control valves.

h. Other related equipment as directed by the Agency's
Authorized Representative.
6.
On or before the date of the final site review, the
Contractor shall deliver the corrected and completed
sepias to the Agency's Authorized Repro-sentative.
Delivery of the sepias will not relieve the Contractor
of the responsibility of furnishing required information
that may be omitted from the prints.

Record drawing shall be approved by the Agency's
Authorized Representative before controller charts are
prepared.
2.
Provide ons controller chart for each eontrollar
supplied.
3.
The chart shall show the area controlled by the
automatic controller and shall be the maximmun size which
the controller door will allow.

The chart is to be a reduced drawing of the actual
record system, of a maximum size that will fit inside
controller housing, double aided is required los
readability.

The chart shall be a blackline print and a different
color shall be used to indicate the area of coverage for
sacb station, using pastel or transparent colors.

when completed and approved, the chart shall be
hermetically sealed between two pieces of plastic, each
being a minimum twenty (20) mils.
7.
These charts shall be completed and approved prior to
final acceptance of the irrigation system.
D.
1.
Prepare and deliver to the Agency's Authorized
Representative within ten (10) calendar days prior to
completion of construction, two hard cover binders, with
three rings containing the follawinq inforwatioa:
a. Index sheet stating Contractor's address and
telephone number, list of equipment with name and
address of local manufacturer's representative.
b. Catalog and part sheets on every material and
equipment installed under this contract,
c . Guarantee stats a.
d. Complete operating sad maintenance instruction oa
all major equipment.
2. In addition to the above mentioned maintenance manuals,
provide the Agency's maintenance personnel with -
instructions for major equipment and show evidence in
___ writing to the Agency's Authorized Representative at the
conclusion of the project that this service has been
rendered.

1.06 PRODUCT DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING
A,Hin�dI no 0f P_V_C_ Pine _E=inat: The Contractor is
cautioned to exercise care in handling, loading, unloading,
and storing of P.V.C. pipe fittings. All P.V.C. pipe shall be
transported fn a vehicle which allows the length of pipe to
lie flat so as not to subect it to undue bending or
concentrated external load at any point. Any section of pipe
that has been dented or damaged will be discarded and, if
installed, shall los replaced with new piping.
11. when pipe is stored outdoors, it shall los covered to protect
it from sunlight.
1.07 SUBSTITUTIONS
A. If the Irrigation Contractor wishes to substitute asaj►
equipment or materials for those equipment or materials listed
on the Irrigation drawings and specifications, he may do so by
providing the following information to the Agency's lliuthorized
Representative for approval:
I. Provide a statement indicating the reason for making the
substitution. Use a separate sheet of pager fez each
item to be substituted.
2.* Provide descriptive catalog literature, performance
charts and flow charts for each item to be substituted.
3. Provide the amount of cost savings if the substituted
item is approved.
4. Approval of any item as a Substitution or alternate is
for design only, based on information or samples
provided by the Contractor.
S. Contractor shall be responsible for the total
performance of such substitution to equal or surpass the
original in every respect.
6. if the substitution prows to be uasatisfaetory in the
1 opinion of the Agency's Authorized Representa- tive,
Contractor shall remove such work and replace it with
originally specified item (including installation) as
part of the work of this section.
a. The Agency's Authorized Representative shall have the sole
responsibility for accepting or rejecting any sibstituted item
as an approved equal to equipment and materials listed on the
irrigation drawings and specifications.
1.04 GUARANTEE
A. The guarantee for the sprinkler irrigation system shall be
made in accordance with the following form. The general
conditions and supplementary conditions of these
specifications shall be filled with the Agency or his
representative prior to acceptance of the irrigation systaw.
a. A copy of the guarantee form shall be included in the
operations and maintenance manual.
C. The guarantee form shall be retyped onto the Contractor's
letterhead and contain the following informati�:

such defects at no additional cost to the Agency. we shall
make sure repairs or replacements within a reasonable time, as
determined by the Agency, after receipt of written notice. In
the event of our failure to make such repairs or replacements
within a reasonable time after receipt of written notice from
the Agency, we authorized the Agency to proceed to have said
repairs or replacements made at our expense and we will pay
the coats and charges therefore upon demand.

1.09 TEMPORARY REPAIRS
A. The Agency reserves the right to make temporary repairs as
necessary to keep the sprinkler system equipment in operating
condition. The exercise of this right by the Agency shall not
relieve the Contractor of his reaponaibilities under the terms
of the guarantee as herein specified.
1.10 COMECTIONS TO UTILITIES
1. SoLrce of water and Powar SuDD1V: Verify and b!
familiar with the location, size and detail of stub -outs
provided as the source of water and electrical supply to
the sprinkler system, as shown on the plans. Source of
water supply and point of connection shall be new water
meters or stub -outs at approximately locations as shown
on plana. (unless otherwise noted).
2, titilitias Service Cha_rBs,:
The contractor is responsible for all utilities service
charges related to the work during the course of
construction and construction maintenance periods until
the project has been accepted by the Agency. Payment for
the utilities service charges shall be considered as
included in the prices paid for various items of work and
no additional compensation will be made therefor.
3, sYist as Utilities and Condition•: Prior to cutting
into the soil locate all cables, conduits, sewer septic
tanks, and other utilities that are commonly encountered
underground, and take proper precautions not to damage
or distrub such improvements. If a conflict exists
between the construction plan location of facilities and
existing facilities pron�tly notify the Agency, who will
arrange for relocations. Proceed in the same manner if
rock layer or any other conditions encountered
underground make changes advisable.
4; zg»hsurface Condition: Where investigation of subsurface
conditions has been made by a qualified body in areas in
which local materials may be obtained, the Contractor
may request the use of such information, but will be
directly responsible for its verification and accuracy.
1.11 CONSTRUCTION OHSERVATIOIi
1. Itoti><ication and Access: At all times permit the Agency
or his authorized agents to visit and observe the work
or any part thereof. Maintain proper facilities and
provide safe access for such observations to all parte
of the work. Where the specifications require work to
los tested, it shall not be covered up until tested or
approved by the Agency and governing agencies. The
Contractor shall be solely responsible for notifying the
Agency and required agency (forty-eight (48) hours
notice minimum required), where and when such work is in
readiness for approval, it shall, if so ordered, be
uncovered at the Contractor's expense.
2. Observations required:
a. Prestart meeting.
b. Layout of control equipment and heads (All concrete
headers to be installed prior to head layout).
C. Main line pressure test, sleeves and trench depth
check.
d. Lateral trench depth check, lateral lines and hoed
assemblies.
s. Control unit operation.
f. Coverage test and prefinal observation. (The
Agency's Authorized Representative and a City of
Fontana Operation B Maintenance Inspector must be
present who will provide is writing the approval to
proceed with planting operation.)
g. Final observation.
1.12 COMPLZTIOa
A. In judging the work, no allowance for deviation from the
original plans sad specification will los wade unless
previously approved by the Agency.
11. When any item appears sn the plana and not in the
sp:cificationa, or in the specifications and not on the plan,
it shall los considered in both.
C. The Agency or his authorized representative shall have the
final authority on all items of the project.
1.13 B=PMEt1rT TO 33 FURNISHED
A. Sprinkling equipment, operating keys and spare parts shall be
furnished to the Agency as shown on the irrigation drawings.
1.14 SERVICE BY THE CONTRACTOR
A. The Contractor shall service the system at the Agency's
request during the guarantee period, and shall be paid for
work performed which is not covered by the guarantee. If
requested by the Agency, the Contractor shall furnish the
Agency with a schedule of service feel.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 MATERIALS
A. Ocneral: Use only new materials of brands and types noted on
drawings, specified herein, or approved equals.
2.02 PIPES AND FITTINGS

and fittings shall be of type sad installation method
prescribed by the manufacturer.
6. where called for on drawings, pipe shall be bell end,
conforming to ASTM D-2672. Install concrete thrust
blocks as recommended in Johns -Manville installation
guide no. TR -624, where conditions dictate.
2.03 ELECTRIC (HIGH VOLTAGE) .
A. All high voltage electrical service required for automatic
controller and other equipment noted on drawing for irrigation
system ed by Contractor.
a. Provide approved type enclosure for motor, similar to that
manufactured by Myers Electrical Products, Inc. (213) 724-
0450, model as specified on drawing. Enclosure shall be of
adequate size to house automatic controller specified on
drawing. Enclosure shall be zinc coated steel, minimum twelve
(12) gauge in thickness. Cabinet shall be protected against
corrosion in accordance with U.L. 50, Cabinets and Boxes,
Section 13. Exterior covers to be minimum fourteen (14) gauge
steel and shall have padlocking provisions. Deadfront shall
be a hinged type, sixteen (16) quage minimum, and shall not
require the use of installation or servicing. All factory
installed components shall be U.L. listed. All factory
installed conductors shall be copper, size and type to conform
to NEC and U.L. requirements. Enclosure shall be furnish with
a detachable sub -base with ons -half (1/2) inch diameter bolts.
Mounting bolts shall consist of one (1) zinc chromate primer
and two (2) coats baked enamel paint.
C. Electrical equipment installed outside building shall be !NEMA
4 type.
D. Pump starter. Provide flow switch of type as noted on drawing
and connect to time delay switch and magnetic starter.
t. All connections between electrical services and equipment
shall be in rigid PVC or galvanized electrical conduit, with
conduit and wiring size as required.
2,04 ELECTRICAL (LOW VOLTAGE)
A. Connections between controller and remote control valves shall
be made with direct burial A WG -UF, 600 volt wire, insulation
thickness three-sixty-forths (3/64) inch, utilizing low
density high molecular weight polyethylene insulation.
a. Splices, where permitted, shall be waterproofed using Rain
Bird, Pen -Tito Connectors or fusible heat shrinking tubing,
and housed in a box. Boxes for other irrigation use may be
utilized for this purpose.
C. wire sizing shall los a minimum of $14 "UF" 600 volt
underground wiring, unless a shielded cable is used in which
case $18 wire may be used. Common wire to be white in color,
and all others a different color.
Electrical control wire shall be AEF 14 AWG Type UP 600 volt
(U. L.) direct burial. The wire shall be bundled, taped every
ten (10) linear feet, placed adjacent to the main line. An
eighteen (18") inch expansion loop will be provided for every
change of direction greater than 45'.
The common wire shall be white and the valve control wires
shall be black and marked with numbered tags at both ends to
identify the valve zones and controller.
The control wire shall be installed at a depth of 18" minimum
below finish grade and sidewalk and sleeved 24" minimum below
hard surfaces (i.e. driveays, parking lots, streets). At each
electric control valve an expansion coil of twenty-four (241)
inches minimum per wire shall be provided. The coil can be
achieved by coiling (winding) the wire around a piece of 3/4
PVC pipe. At the controller pedestal, each control wire shall
los twenty-four (24") inches longer than the required
connection. The installed wire shall be neatly organized with
the excess wire looped and secured to the bottom of the
controller cabinet. The control wire shall be sleeved
separately in SCH 40 PVC pipe sized to the number of wires to
be sleeved (minimum 3/4 inch) under Au hard surfaces.
When valve control wiring from two (2) different controllers
is located within the same trench, the second controllers
wiring shall be as follows:
Common wire: white with a colored strip
Pilot Wire: . Red with tags at each end identifying
the controller with valve number and
controller I.D.
Additional controller wiring in the sane trench from a third,
forth, or more controllers shall be different in color for flu
pilot wires and the comnpon wire shall be white with a
different colored strip. The pilot wires shall be tagged
identifying the valve and controller.
Extra control pilot wires will be installed at each controller
to the terminal end. The extra wire(s) shall be looped a
minimum of 48" up into each valve box. The extra wires will
be identified as extra and numbered with tags at each valve
box.
All valve control wiring shall be continuous runs. Splicing
of wise is unacceptable and will be rejected, unless otherwise
approved by the City Landscape Inspector.
