GENERAL CONSTRUCTION NOTES
1.
THE CONSTRUCTION OF ALL PUBLIC IMPROVEMENTS SHALL CONFORM TO THESE PLANS AND TO THE REQUIREMENTS
OF THE CITY STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS AND THE STANDARD SPECIFICATION FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUCTION
(GREEN BOOK) LATEST REVISIONS.
2. CONSTRUCTION PERMITS SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE FONTANA ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT PRIOR TO START OF
ANY WORK WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS.
3. STATIONING REFERS TO CENTERLINES OF STREET.
4. CURB DATA REFERS TO THE FACE OF THE CURB.
5. ALL EXPOSED CONCRETE SHALL CONFORM IN GRADE, COLOR AND FINISH TO ALL ADJOINING CURBS AND SIDEWALKS.
6. PAVEMENT SECTIONS SHOWN ARE MINIMUM AND SUBJECT TO REVISION AND APPROVAL OF THE CITY AS REQUIRED
BY SOILS TEST TAKEN AFTER COMPLETION OF ROUGH GRADING. SHOULD THE STREET CONSTRUCTION START MORE
THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER THE PLANS ARE APPROVED, AND IF THE FIELD PAVEMENT CONDITIONS CHANGE, THEN THE
DEVELOPER WOULD BE REQUIRED TO UPDATE THE DESIGN TO ACCOMMODATE ACTUAL FIELD CONDITIONS.
7. ALL UNDERGROUND WORK SHALL BE COMPLETED PRIOR TO PAVING OF STREETS.
8. EXISTING UNDERGROUND UTILITIES ARE AS PER AVAILABLE RECORDS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
VERIFYING THE ACTUAL LOCATION AND ELEVATION IN THE FIELD. CONTRACTOR SHALL CALL EACH UTILITY PRIOR TO
ANY WORK.
9. ALL MANHOLE AND CLEANOUT FRAMES AND COVERS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED 6" BELOW FINISHED GRADE BY SEWER
CONTRACTOR AND SHALL BE RAISED TO GRADE BY PAVING CONTRACTOR AFTER COMPLETION OF PAVING.
10, ALL VALVE FRAMES AND COVERS SHALL BE CONSTRUCTED 6" BELOW FINISHED GRADE BY WATER CONTRACTOR
AND SHALL BE RAISED TO GRADE BY PAVING CONTRACTOR AFTER COMPLETION OF PAVING.
11. REFER TO CITY OF FONTANA, UNDERGROUND UTILITY LOCATION STANDARD DETAIL 129.
12. THE CONTRACTOR(S) SHALL COORDINATE CONSTRUCTION WITH ALL UTILITIES AND OTHER IMPROVEMENTS INCLUDING,
BUT NOT LIMITED TO GAS, TELEPHONE, ELECTRICAL, LIGHTING, TELEVISION CABLE, LANDSCAPING, LANDSCAPING
IRRIGATION, DOMESTIC WATER, RECLAIMED WATER, SEWER, STORM DRAINAGE, FLOOD CONTROL SYSTEMS, ETC.
13. AS BUILT DRAWINGS SHALL BE PROVIDED BY THE CONTRACTOR TO THE ENGINEER OF RECORD. RECORD DRAWINGS
SHALL BE PROVIDED TO THE CITY OF FONTANA.
14. TYPE, LOCATION, AND WIDTH OF DRIVEWAY APPROACH APRONS WILL BE DETERMINED AT THE TIME OF
CONSTRUCTION AND SHALL CONFORM WITH THE CITY OF FONTANA STANDARD DETAILS AND DETAILS HEREON.
15. CONTRACTOR IS INSTRUCTED TO REFER TO THESE PLANS AND THE SPECIFICATIONS, AND WHERE THERE IS OR MAY
BE A CONFLICT SHALL IMMEDIATELY REPORT SAID CONFLICT OR POSSIBLE CONFLICT TO THE OWNER'S REPRESENTATIVE.
-16. STERILANT REQUIRED UNDER ALL A.C. PAVEMENT.
17. NO CONCRETE SHALL BE PLACED UNTIL THE FORMS AND REINFORCING STEEL HAVE BEEN PLACED, INSPECTED AND
APPROVED.
18. THE WALLS AND FACES OF ALL EXCAVATIONS GREATER THAN FIVE (5) FEET IN DEPTH SHALL BE EFFECTIVELY
GUARDED BY A SHORING SYSTEM, SLOPING OF THE GROUND, OR OTHER EQUIVALENT MEANS. TRENCHES LESS THAN
FIVE (5) FEET IN DEPTH SHALL ALSO BE GUARDED WHEN EXAMINATION INDICATES HAZARDOUS GROUND MOVEMENT
MAY BE EXPECTED.
19. THE CONTRACTOR(S) SHALL OBTAIN A PERMIT TO PERFORM EXCAVATION OR TRENCH WORK AS DESCRIBED IN NOTE
18 ABOVE FROM CALIFORNIA STATE DIVISION OF INDUSTRIAL SAFETY, SEE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC
WORKS CONSTRUCTION SECTION 306-1.1.6
20. NO TRENCH BACKFILL SHALL TAKE PLACE WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL OF THE CITY'S INSPECTOR.
21. ACTUAL PAVEMENT THICKNESS SHALL BE DETERMINED BY SOIL ENGINEER AFTER COMPLETION OF ROUGH GRADING.
22. ADEQUATE STAKES SHALL BE SET BY THE ENGINEER TO ENABLE THE CONTRACTOR TO CONSTRUCT THE WORK TO
THE PLAN GRADES.
23. ALL UTILITY COMPANIES SHALL BE GIVEN 48 HOURS N0110E PRIOR TO WORKING AROUND THEIR FACILITIES.
24. BACKFILL MATERIALS SHALL BE VERIFIED BY CONTRACTOR AND APPROVED BY THE PUBLIC WORKS INSPECTOR
PRIOR TO THE PLACING OF ANY PERMANENT PAVEMENT.
25. BACKFILL MATERIALS TO HAVE S.E. OF 30 (MIN) AND A MIN. COMPACTION OF 907.
26. THE CONTRACTOR IS REQUIRED TO HAVE A FULL SET OF L.A.C.F.C.D. STANDARDS & A.P.W.A. STANDARDS ON SITE
AT ALL TIMES PRIOR TO STORM DRAIN CONSTRUCTION.
27. PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION OF WATER, SEWER, AND/OR STORM DRAIN LINES, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL EXPOSE THE
EXISTING WATER, SEWER, AND/OR STORM DRAIN LINES WHERE CONNECTIONS WILL OCCUR AND VERIFY THEIR ELEVATION
AND LOCATION. APPROVAL BY THE CITY OF FONTANA OF A PROPOSED CONNECTION TO A CITY FACILITY DOES NOT
IMPLY APPROVAL OF THE CORRECTNESS OF THE ELEVATION AND/OR LOCATION AS SHOWN ON PLANS.
28. IF DURING CONSTRUCTION, GROUND WATER IS ENCOUNTERED, A SYSTEM APPROVED BY THE CITY ENGINEER SHALL
BE INSTALLED TO DEWATER SAID AREA AT THE DIRECTION OF THE SOILS ENGINEER.
29. ALL EXPOSED METAL SURFACES SHALL BE GALVANIZED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE CITY STANDARD
SPECIFICATIONS.
30. ALL MATERIALS AND METHODS TO BE SUBJECT TO THE APPROVAL OF THE CITY ENGINEER.
31. ACTUAL THICKNESS OF A.C. PAVEMENT AND/OR BASE COURSE MATERIAL FOR STREET STRUCTURAL SECTIONS ARE
MINIMUMS AND SHALL BE RECOMMENDED BY A GEOTECHNICAL ENGINEERING REPORT AND SUBMITTED TO THE CITY
OF FONTANA FOR APPROVAL UPON COMPLETION OF ROUGH GRADING. THE PROJECT DEVELOPER IS, IN GENERAL
REQUIRED TO BRING HIS HALF STREET SECTION FRONTAGES UP TO A 20 YEAR DESIGN LIFE BETWEEN SITE PROPERTY
LINES, PLUS REASONABLE JOINS TO EXISTING PAVEMENT SUBJECT TO FINAL APPROVAL BY THE CITY ENGINEER.
32. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO NOTIFY THE ENGINEER AFTER THE BASE COURSE HAS
BEEN CONSTRUCTED AND BEFORE THE PAVING HAS BEEN INSTALLED SO THAT THE ENGINEER MAY INSTALL STREET
CENTERLINE MONUMENTS AS REQUIRED BY THE CITY CODE OF THE CITY OF FONTANA.
