The construction of all public improvements shall conform to these plans and to the requirements of the City Standard Specifications, Public Works Department, City of Fontana. Refer to definitions and terms i.n City Standard Specifications. 2. Excavation and Construction Permits shall be obtained from Fontana Public Works Department prior to start of any work- within the city limits. 3. The Contractor shall obtain a permit from the San Bernardino County Road Depart- - ment for work within the County right-of-way. 4. The Contractor shall obtain a permit from the San Bernardino County Flood Control District for work within their easements. i 5. Stationing refers to the centerlines of street except where otherwise noted. 6. All exposed concrete surfaces shall conform in grade, color and finish to all adjoining curbs and sidewalks. 7. No concrete shall be placed until the forms and reinforcing steel has been placed, inspected and approved. 8. All underground work shall be completed prior to paying of streets. 9. Locations of Public Utilities shown have been determined from available information. However, it shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to determine the true loca-' tion and elevation in the field of any existing utilities and to exercise proper pre- cautions to avoid injury or damage thereto. Contractor shall contact underground service alert for utility location before excavation at 1-800-422-4133. 10. The walls and faces of all excavations greater than five (5) feet in depth shall be effectively guarded by a shoring system, sloping of the ground or other equivalent means. Trenches less than five (5) feet in depth shall also be guarded when exam- ination indicates hazardous ground movement may be expected. 11. The Contractor(s) shall obtain a permit to perform excavation or trench work as described in Note 19 above from California State Division of Industrial Safety. See Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction Section 306-1.1.6. 12. All manhole and cleanout frames and covers shall be constructed 6 inches below finished grade by sewer contractor and shall be raised to grade by paving contractor after completion of paving. 13. Immediately following removal of existing pavement or dike or curb and/or gutter, the Contractor shall diligently pursue that portion of work to completion. 14. All R.C.P. installation and connections shall be made per manufacturer's suggested method unless otherwise specified on the Plans. 15. If during construction, ground water is encountered, a system approved by the City Engineer shall be installed to dewater said area at the direction of the soils engineer. 16. No trench backfill shall take place without prior approval of the City's inspector. 17. As -built drawings shall be provided by the Contractor to the City of Fontana. r 18.
