GENERAL NOTES:
1. ALL WORK SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE PLANS AND THE
CITY OF FONTANA ENGINEERING DIVISION STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS;
DATED 1975, AND ANY REVISIONS THEREAFTER.
2. ALL MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT SHALL CONFORM TO THE REQUIREMENTS
OF THE 1994 STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS
CONSTRUCTION, "GREENBOOK" AND THE 1995 SUPPLEMENT; THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA, DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (CALTRANS) STANDARD
PLANS AND STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS, DATED 1994; CALTRANS TRAFFIC
MANUAL, LATEST EDITION, OR LATEST NON—METRIC EDITION.
3. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL CONFORM TO ALL TRAFFIC CONTROL POLICIES,
METHODS AND PROCEDURES DESCRIBED IN THE CALTRANS TRAFFIC
MANUAL, CHAPTER 5 — MANUAL OF TRAFFIC CONTROLS FOR CONSTRUCTION
AND MAINTENANCE WORK ZONES, LATEST EDITION, OR LATEST
NON—METRIC EDITION, AND THE W. A. T. C. H. ( WORK AREA TRAFFIC.
CONTROL HANDBOOK), LATEST EDITION_.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REFER- TO THE CITY ENGINEER IN THE EVENT OF
A CONFLICT OR POTENTIAL CONFLICT WITH THE PLANS AND/OR
SPECIFICATIONS FOR THIS PROJECT.
5. ALL REQUIRED CONSTRUCTION PERMITS SHALL BE OBTAINED FROM THE
CITY OF FONTANA ENGINEERING DIVISION PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION
BEGINNING.
6. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MAINTAIN ACCESS FOR LOCAL RESIDENTS AND
BUSINESSES AT ALL TIMES. A MINIMUM 12 FOOT LANE SHALL BE
MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES IN THE CLOSURE AREA FOR RESIDENTS AND
EMERGENCY VEHICLES.
7. QUALIFIED FLAGGERS SHALL BE USED WHERE CONSTRUCTION REDUCES THE
ROADWAY TO A SINGLE THROUGH LANE OR TRAFFIC MUST STOP FOR
MOVEMENT OF EQUIPMENT.
8. UPON COMPLETION OF CONSTRUCTION, CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE ALL
SIGNING, STRIPING, BARRICADES, AND OTHER TRAFFIC CONTROL
DEVICES TO THEIR ORIGINAL CONDITION, OR TO THE SATISFACTION OF
THE CITY ENGINEER.
9. EXACT LOCATION OF ALL EQUIPMENT AND CONTROL DEVICES TO BE
DETERMINED BY THE CITY ENGINEER. ADDITIONAL WARNING,
CONSTRUCTION SIGNS, AND/OR TRAFFIC SAFETY EQUIPMENT MAY BE.
REQUIRED BY THE CITY ENGINEER. LOCATION OF ALL EQUIPMENT IS
SUBJECT TO FINAL APPROVAL AND MAY BE MODIFIED BY THE CITY
ENGINEER.
10. IT SHALL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO MAINTAIN
BARRICADES, DELINEATORS, OR OTHER TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES AT
ALL TIMES.
11. ALL WORK AREAS SHALL BE CLEARLY IDENTIFIED AND DELINEATED WITH
CONES, PORTABLE DELINEATORS, AND/OR BARRICADES. ALL CONES OR
PORTABLE DELINEATORS SHALL BE A MINIMUM OF 28 INCHES IN
HEIGHT.
12. ALL SIGNS SHALL BE REFLECTORIZED OR ILLUMINATED.
13. TRAFFIC SIGN DIMENSIONS, COLOR AND LETTERING SHALL CONFORM TO
THE LATEST CALTRANS SIGN SPECIFICATION SHEETS.
14. SIGNS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN SHADOWS OR IN OBSTRUCTED
LOCATIONS.
15. THE BOTTOM OF ALL SIGNS SHALL BE PLACED A MINIMUM OF 48 INCHES
ABOVE THE TRAVELED SURFACE AND, WHEREVER POSSIBLE, 7 FEET IS A
PREFERABLE HEIGHT.
16. SIGNS SHALL NOT BE PLACED IN EXCESS OF 15 FEET FROM THE EDGE OF
TRAVELED WAY. PORTABLE SIGN STANDARD SHALL BE TIED DOWN OR
WEIGHTED DOWN TO PREVENT TOPPLING.
17. ALL EXISTING SIGNS THAT ARE IN CONFLICT AND/OR NO LONGER
APPLICABLE WITH THIS PLAN, SHALL BE COVERED OR REMOVED.
18. ALL EXISTING STRIPING AND PAVEMENT MARKING THAT ARE IN CONFLICT
AND/OR ARE NO LONGER APPLICABLE WITH THIS PLAN, SHALL BE
COVERED OR REMOVED.
19. THE WORK ZONE SHALL BE ROUTINELY INSPECTED AND MAINTAINED TO
ENSURE PROPER VISIBILITY AND OPERATION OF ALL TRAFFIC CONTROL
AND ADVANCE WARNING DEVICES.
20. ALL FLASHING YELLOW WARNING LIGHTS SHALL BE TYPE "A„, PORTABLE,
LENS DIRECTED, ENCLOSED AND MOUNTED AT A MINIMUM HEIGHT OF
THREE FEET, MEASURED FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE LENS TO THE
UNDERLYING SURFACE.
21. ALL FLASHING YELLOW WARNING LIGHTS SHALL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH
W. A. T. C. H. LATEST ED I T I ON.
22. CONTRACTOR TO NOTIFY CITY TRAFFIC SECTION 2 WORKING DAYS PRIOR
TO IMPLEMENTING THIS CONTROL PLAN TO ALLOW CITY STAFF TO ADJUST
TRAFFIC SIGNAL DETECTION.
23. ADVANCE CONSTRUCTION SIGNING INDICATING DURATION OF PROJECT TO
BE IN PLACE ONE WEEK PRIOR TO IMPLEMENTING DETOUR.
