GENERAL NOTES
1. TRAFFIC SIGNS, STRIPES, LEGENDS AND RAISED PAVEMENT MARKERS SHALL CONFORM
TO THE CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION TRAFFIC SIGN SPECIFICATIONS,
STANDARD PLANS AND CALTRANS STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS.
2. POST MOUNTED TRAFFIC SIGNS SHALL BE MOUNTED ON A "QUICK PUNCH POST"
2" X 2" (12 GA.) WITH 7/16" HOLES, 1" ON CENTERS, ON FOUR SIDES THAT CAN
BE PUNCHED OUT. LENGTH OF POSTS TO VARY WITH SIGN INSTALLATION TO
MAINTAIN MINIMUM HEIGHTS.
3. TRAFFIC SIGN POST ANCHOR SHALL BE A HEAVY DUTY ONE PIECE, 2 1/2" X 30" X
6 GAUGE, (NON—PERFORATED), TO FIT A 2" SQUARE STEEL POST, PREPUNCHED AT
MID—POINT OF ANCHOR WITH ONE 7/16" HOLE ON EACH SIDE, AND AT TOP.
4. STRAP AND SADDLE BRACKET METHOD SHALL BE USED TO MOUNT SIGN ON ELECTROLIER.
5. TRAFFIC PAINT SHALL BE LOW VOC STREET AND HIGHWAY COATINGS THAT COMPLY WITH
THE SOUTH COAST AIR QUALITY MANAGEMENT DISTRICT RULE 1113. WATER BASE PAINT
IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
6. PAVEMENT LEGENDS SHALL CONFORM TO CITY STENCILS.
7. STRIPES AND PAVEMENT LEGENDS SHALL BE REFLECTORIZED.

8. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH THE NECESSARY CONTROL POINTS FOR ALL STRIPING
AND MARKINGS AND SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COMPLETENESS AND ACCURACY
THEREOF TO THE SATISFACTION OF THE CITY ENGINEER.
9. SPOTTING SHALL BE COMPLETE PRIOR TO THE REMOVAL OF ANY EXISTING STRIPES OR
MARKINGS. EXISTING CONFLICTING STRIPES AND MARKINGS SHALL BE REMOVED PRIOR
TO PAINTING NEW ONES, BUT IN NO CASE SHALL ANY SECTION OF STREET BE LEFT
WITHOUT THE PROPER STRIPING FOR MORE THAN 24 HOURS, OR OVER WEEKENDS OR
HOLIDAYS.
10. PAINT FOR LAYOUT, ALIGNMENT AND SPOTTING SHALL BE OF THE SAME COLOR AS THE
STRIP OR PAVEMENT MARKING TO BE PAINTED.
11. TRAFFIC PAINT SHALL BE APPLIED AT THE RATE OF 16 TO 18 GALLONS PER MILE OF
SOLID 4—INCH WIDE STRIPE (ONE GALLON FOR EVERY 98 SQUARE FEET). THE DRY
PAINT FILM THICKNESS SHALL BE EIGHT (8) TO TEN (10) MILS.
12. TWO COATS OF PAINT SHALL BE APPLIED TO ALL TRAFFIC STRIPES AND PAVEMENT
MARKINGS. A MINIMUM OF SEVEN (7) DAYS AND A MAXIMUM OF FOURTEEN (14) DAYS
SHALL ELAPSE BETWEEN APPLICATION OF THE FIRST AND SECOND COATS OF PAINT.
13. TRAFFIC CONTROL SHALL BE AS PER THE "STATE OF CALIFORNIA MANUAL OF TRAFFIC
CONTROLS."
