1. The construction of all public improvements shall conform
to these plans and to the requirements of the City Standard
Specifications, Public Works Department, City of Fontana.
Refer to definitions and terms in City standard specifications
dated 1975.
2. Construction permits shall be obtained from Fontana Public
Works Department prior to start of any work within the City
limits.
3. Stationing refers to the centerlines of street.
4. Curb data refers to the face of the curb.
5. All exposed concrete shall conform in grade, color and finish
to all adjoining curbs and sidewalks,
6. Pavement sections shown are minimum and subject to revision
and approval of the City as required by soils test taken
after completion of rough grading.
7. All underground round work shall be completed prior to paving
of streets.
8. Existing underground utilities are asP er available records.

9. All manhole and cleanout frames and covers shall be
constructed 6" below finished grade by sewer contractor
and shall be raised to grade by paving contractor during
paving operation. i
10. All valve frames and covers shall be constructed 6" below
finished grade by water contractor and shall be raised
to grade by paving contractor during paving operation.
11. Refer to City of Fontana, underground utility location
standard detail 129.
12. The contractor(s) shall coordinate construction with all
utilities and other improvements including, but not limited
to gas, telephone, electrical, lighting, television cable,
landscaping, landscape irrigation, domestic water, reclaimed
water, sewer, storm drainage, flood control systems, etc.
13. Record drawings shall be provided by the contractor to
the City of Fontana.
14. Type, location and width of driveway approach aprons will
be determined at the time of construction and shall conform
with the City of Fontana standard details and details hereon.
15. Contractor is instructed to refer to these plans and the
specifications, and where there is or may be a conflict
shall immediately report said conflict or possible conflict
to the owner's representative.
16. Sterilant required under all A.C. pavement.
17. No concrete shall be placed until the forms and reinforcing
steel has been placed, inspected and approved.
18. The walls and faces of all excavations greater than five
(5) feet in depth shall be effectively guarded by a shoring
system, sloping of the ground or other equivalent means.
Trenches less than five (5) feet in depth shall also be
guarded when examination indicates hazardous ground movement
i may be expected.

19. The contractor(s) shall obtain a permit to perform excavation
or trench work as described in note 18 above from California
State Division of Industrial Safety. See Standard
Specificiations for public works construction Section
306-1.1.6.
20. No trench backfill shall take place without prior approval
of the City's inspector.
21. Adequate stakes shall be set by the engineer to enable the
contractor to construct the work to the plan grades.
22. All utility companies shall be given 48 hours notice prior
to working around their facilities.
23. All backfill to be certified by Soils Engineer.
24. Backfill materials to have a S.E. of 30(min) and minimum
compaction of 90%.
25. Prior to construction of water sewer and/or storm drain
lines the contractor shall expose the existing water sewer
and/or storm drain lines where connections will occur and
verify their elevation and location. Approval by the City
of Fontana of a proposed connection to a City facility does
not imply approval of the correctness of the elevation and/or
location as shown on plans.
26. If during construction, ground water is encountered, a system
approved by the City Engineer shall be installed to dewater
said area at the direction of the Soils Engineer.
27. All exposed metal surfaces shall be galvanized in accordance
with the City Standard Specifications.
28. All materials and methods to be subject to the approval
of the City Engineer.
29• Contractor shall not operate any main line water valve
on existing waterlines.
30. An .encroachment permit is required from the following
agencies: The City of Fontana - Before any work may
begin in or near the City right-of-way. From Caltrans
- prior to performing any work within the State Highway
right-of-way.

31. Unless pre -approved and justified or as noted on plans,
all work within highway right-of-way shall be to State
Standards and all work within City right-of-way shall
conform to the latest City of Fontana Standard Plans
and Specifications.
32. Structural section indicated for highway is for
estimating only. Actual section will be determined
after grading and appropriate lab test. A T.I. of
10.0 should be used in the design of the highway section.
PRIVATE ENGINEER'S NOTE
The private engineer signing these plans is responsible
for assuring the accuracy and acceptability of the work
hereon. In the event of discrepancies arising during
construction, the private engineer shall be responsible
for

of a proper pavement thickness.
