All work shall be done in accordance with these plans and the City of Fontana Public Works Department Standard Specifications dated 1975. 2. Construction permits shall be obtained from Fontana Public Works Depart- ment prior to the start of any work. 3. Adequate stakes shall be set by the Engineer to enable the Contractor to construct the work to the plan grades. 4. As -built plans shall be provided to the City by the Contractor. 5. The Contractor shall contact all serving utility companies for locations of existing underground lines that may exist which are not shown on these plans before the start of any work. 6. A permit shall be obtained from Union Pacific Railroad Company prior to the start of any work within their easement. ' 7. The Contractor shall repair or replace all existing improvements, utility facilities, adjacent property, landscaping, fences, signs, markers and monuments, buildings and structures, conduits and pipelines under or above ground, sewer and waterlines, and appurtenances per. the Standard Specifi-' cations of the City of Fontana (Caltrans Sections 7-11 "Preservation bf Property," Section 7-1.12 "Responsibility for Damage," and Section 8-1.10 "Utility and Non -Highway Facilities." 8. The walls and faces of all excavations greater than 5' in depth shall be effectively guarded by a shoring or shielding system: Trenches less than 5' in depth shall also be guarded when examination indicates hazardous ground movement may be expected. Public safety shall be consistently guarded at all times, and non-compliance with this note shall be consider- ed the Contractor's responsibility. 9. Contractor shall fillet bottom of manholes and other structures with Class "A" concrete so as to always provide a smooth transition on flow - lines between inlets and outlets. 10. Existing utilities shall be maintained in place by the Contractor unless otherwise noted. Contractor shall backfill with sand a minimum of 24" around utility lines. 11. All pipe to be installed with bedding and D -load as specified. 12. Trench failures shall be repaird by the Contractor immediately. Upon failure of the Contractor to promptly comply, and under order of the City Engineer, trench failures shall be repaired at the Contractor's sole expense. 13.
