1. ALL WORK SHALL BE DONE IN ACCORDANCE WITH THESE PLANSI

2. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE CONSTRUCTION WITH ALL UTILI-
TIES, ALL PERMITS SHALL BE OBTAINED AND PAID BY CONTRACTOR.
3. ALL PIPES OR STRUCTURES OF ANY KIND AND TELEPHONE, OR
POWER POLES, WATER METERS, VALVES, HYDRANTS, IRRIGATION
STRUCTURES, ETC., SHOWN OR NOT SHOWN ON THESE PLANS AND
LOCATED WITHIN AREAS TO BE IMPROVED AND INTERFERING
WITH CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE RELOCATED AT NO COST TO THE
CITY OF FONTANA. IT SHALL BE THE CONTRACTOR'S RESPONSI-
BILITY TO NOTIFY ALL AGENCIES CONCERNED.
4. THE WALLS AND FACES OF ALL EXCAVATIONS GREATER THAN 5'
IN DEPTH SHALL BE EFFECTIVELY GUARDED BY A SHORING OR
SHIELDING SYSTEM. TRENCHES LESS THAN 5' IN DEPTH SHALL
ALSO BE GUARDED WHEN EXAMINATION INDICATES HAZARDOUS
GROUND MOVEMENT MAY BE EXPECTED. PUBLIC SAFETY SHALL
BE CONSISTENTLY GUARDED AT ALL TIMES, AND NON-COMPLIANCE
WITH THIS NOTE SHALL BE CONSIDERED THE CONTRACTOR'S
RESPONSIBILITY.
5. THE CONTRACTOR(S) SHALL OBTAIN A PERMIT TO PERFORM
EXCAVATION OR TRENCH WORK AS DESCRIBED IN NOTE 4 ABOVE
FROM CALIFORNIA STATE DIVISION OF INDUSTRIAL SAFETY.
SEE STANDARD SPECIFICATIONS FOR PUBLIC WORKS CONSTRUC-
TION, SECTION 306-1.1.6.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL FILLET BOTTOM OF MANHOLES AND OTHER
STRUCTURES WITH CLASS "A" CONCRETE SO AS TO ALWAYS
PROVIDE A SMOOTH TRANSITION ON FLOWLINES BETWEEN INLETS
AND OUTLETS.
7. EXISTING UTILITIES SHALL BE MAINTAINED IN PLACE BY THE
CONTRACTOR UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. CONTRACTOR SHALL
BACKFILL WITH SAND A MINIMUM OF 24" AROUND UTILITY
LINES.
8. ALL PIPE TO BE INSTALLED WITH BEDDING AS -SHOWN ON-THESS) A
PLANS)AND D -LOAD AS SPECIFIED.
9. COMPACTION OF BACKFILL SHALL BE VERIFIED BY CONTRACTOR
AND APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS PRIOR TO

10. PRIOR TO PLACEMENT OF PERMANENT PAVING, EXISTING PAVE-
MENT SHALL BE CUT TO A NEAT STRAIGHT LINE. PAVEMENT
CRACKED ADJACENT TO THE TRENCH SHALL BE REMOVED.
11. ALL EDGES OF EXISTING PAVEMENT BEING JOINED AND SURFACE
BEING OVERLAID SHALL RECEIVE A TACK COAT OF ASPHALT
EMULSION WHICH SHALL BE APPLIED AFTER WATER CLEANING.
12. TRENCHES OF 300 FEET OR MORE TO BE PAVED WITH A SELF-
PROPELLED PAVING MACHINE.
13. TRENCH FAILURES SHALL BE REPAIRED BY THE CONTRACTOR
IMMEDIATELY. UPON FAILURE OF THE CONTRACTOR TO PROMPTLY
COMPLY, AND UNDER ORDER OF THE CITY ENGINEER, TRENCH
FAILURES SHALL BE REPAIRED AT THE CONTRACTOR'S SOLE
EXPENSE.
14. IN ALL PIPE CROSSINGS CONTRACTOR SHALL COMPACT BACKFILL
BY LAYERS, AT OPTIMUM MOISTURE CONTENT.
