GENERAL NOTES
1. The construction of all public improvements shall conform to these plans and to the
requirements of the City Standard Specifications, Public Works Department, City of
Fontana. Refer to definitions and terms in City Standard Specifications.
2. Excavation and Construction Permits shall be obtained from Fontana Public Works
Department prior to start of any work within the city limits.
3. The Contractor shall obtain a permit from the San Bernardino County Road Depart-
ment for work within the County right-of-way.
4. The Contractor shall obtain a permit from the San Bernardino County Flood Control
District for work within their easements.
5. Stationing refers to the centerlines of street except where otherwise • noted.
6. All underground work shall be completed prior to paving of streets.
7. Locations of Public Utilities shown have been determined from available information.
However, it shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to determine the true loca-
tion and elevation in the field of any existing utilities and to exercise proper pre-
cautions to avoid injury or damage thereto. Contractor shall contact underground
service alert for utility location before excavation at 1-800-422-4133.

8. The walls and faces of all excavations greater than five (5) feet in depth shall be
effectively guarded by a shoring system, sloping of the ground or other equivalent
means. Trenches less than five (5) feet in depth shall also be guarded when exam-
ination indicates hazardous ground movement may be expected.
9. The Contractor(s) shall obtain a permit to perform excavation or trench work as
described in Note 6 above from California State Division of Industrial Safety. See
Standard Specifications for Public Works Construction Section 306-1.1.6.
10. All manhole and cleanout frames and covers shall be constructed 6 inches below
finished grade by sewer contractor and shall be raised to grade by paving contractor
after completion of, paving.
11. Refer to City of Fontana, underground utility location Standard Detail 129.
12. Adequate stakes shall be set by the Engineer to enable the Contractor to construct
the works to the plan grades.
13. As -built drawings shall be provided by the Contractor to the City of Fontana.
14. The Contractor shall be responsible for the resetting of any survey monuments,
street centerline monuments, or benchmarks which are disturbed during construction
whether they are shown on the plans or not.
15.- Chis. X shall be placed on the curb over locations of sewer laterals 'by the sewer
contractor.
16. It shall be the Contractor's responsibility to verify the horizontal location and vertical
elevations of all utility crossings for all utilities constructed prior to the sewer. Any
discrepancies shall be made in writing to the owner prior to construction.
17. The Contractor(s) shall coordinate construction with all utilities and other improve-
ments including, but not limited to, gas, telephone, electrical, lighting, television
cable, landscaping, landscaping irrigation, domestic water, reclaimed water, sewer,
storm drainage, flood control systems, etc. 48 -hours prior to excavation near their
facilities, notify:
