King RE: Citrus Avenue Storm Drain - Staking Error I received a call from our surveyor working at the Citrus Ave. storm drain job regarding a problem, which had developed at the job site. Don (idula and myself proceeded to the site and arrived at approximately 12:15 pm. There had apparently been an error on the cut sheets in respect to the grade stake elevation for stations 57"1. 77.3 to 59 i 50. The superintendent for Kenko construction said they were aware of the problem at the beginning of the day and proceeded to lay pipe while trying * to compensate for the error. They laid approximately • P P Y b 125 feet of pipe in this manner to station 59+00. They then called the surveyor to advise them of the, error im the cut sheets. I'in told at"10:30 am they stopped working due to the error and sought advice. Don (rdula and myself were in a meeting at City of Fontana so we were not reached until 12;00 p.m. Once on the site, I assessed the problem and gave direction to our surveyor to elevate the end of pipe at 59 i 00, straight grade from that point to the next manhole at 60+49.9 and immediately give the contractor revisedcut sheets for this area. Based on the survey data from the first 125" of pipe installed, it had been laid at 1.15% instead of the design grade of 0.92%. This would require that the remaining pipe in this reach be laid at 0.73% with a grade break of (14%►p t7 J 59-i00. This dellertion can be made at one pipe c joint without the need of' a concrete cgllar. I also do not feel this create any hydraulic problems to the system design. In the future, 1 would like to request that the contractor let us know immediately of any discrepancies in the survey data supplied rather than making adjustments on, their own, I believe that if we had been advised of the problem when first noticed we could have addressed it quickly and the contractor would not have been shut for two hours as they have indicated. 1�.1). Third Street Room 120 San Bernardino Ca. 92415 Re: Citrus Ave: Sewer and Storm Drain Subject; Traffic Control for Storm Drain Pipe Installation Dear Mr. McCollum: As disscussed on site Jan. 30, 2001 we are requesting to close the intersection of Citrus Ave. and Santa Ana Ave. between Catawba Ave. and Oleander Ave. This closure is necessary to facilitate the installation of the 54" and 30" storm drain piping designed to be open cut thru this intersection. Due to the open cut design, depth of construction, configuration, and location related to other existing underground facilities, maintaining safe vehicular traffic is, not possible. Attached herewith is a drawing showing the detour route we propose. We are currently installing pipe south of this intersection and anticipate being at the above mentioned location approximatley February 14th. We are expecting the work requiring the road closure will take•us 5 working days. Please let me know your thoughts on this matter.
